Chapter 200
AELIANA
I’m half asleep when I hear faint taps on my door, my name being called out from there. The taps get louder, my name clearer, urgent.
My eyes snap open at the realisation that whoever it is won’t go away, and I know it’s not Kingston because he would be inside now. I scramble out of bed, wearing nothing but another of Kingston’s shirts that I snuck from his laundry this afternoon to test my theory of being able to fall asleep with his essence nearby, which worked, by the
way.
On the other side of the door is Caleb, the man who has said all but three words to me, so seeing him this late at night makes me feel wary. “Hi.”
“Luna Aeliana, sorry to disturb you, but I was asked to give this to you,” he says, handing me his phone. “Sorry again.”
Caleb is gone before I can ask him why, and staring down at the phone, I realise it’s not his phone but in fact Kingston’s. The wallpaper is a dead giveaway, it’s a picture of me, the same one he had years ago.
The phone vibrates in my hand, Rowan’s name flashing on the screen. “Hello?”
“Thank God,” he sighs. “I need your help.”
“What happened?”
“Your mate happened,” He says, his voice defeated.
“Huh?”
“Kingston is the top of the mountain the one with the err…bridge.”
“Trinity!” I blurt out, I’m familiar with the mountain, but I’m not familiar with it having a bridge. It used to be so hard to get up there, our senior class did a few camp days out there, but I haven’t been there once since I returned.
“Yes, that one. He has been on top of it for hours now, and he keeps screaming your name. Could you come over here?”
I nod to myself, it’s dark outside and we haven’t exactly made up yet, I was planning on keeping him in the doghouse a bit longer. “I don’t know if you know this, but I’m not on speaking terms with him.”
Rowan lets out a frustrated groan this time, “I think the entire pack knows it by now and by morning, your parents will have heard of it too.”
“Aeliana!” I hear Kingston screaming in the background, his voice hoarse and screeching. “I’m sorry, sweet girl!”
Embarrassment washes over me, he is screaming an apology at the top of a mountain, a mountain where couples go to make questionable memories, and lock their destinies together at the bridge. “For goodness sake, it’s ten PM, tell him to cut that shit out.”
“He’s very drunk,” Rowan says, while Kingston continues to scream for me at the top of his lungs. “I’ve tried, but he won’t reason with me. He refuses to come down unless you forgive him.”
“Alright,” I groan. “Just tell him I forgive him.”
He goes silent, “Err, yeah. I think you need to be here for that message, it’s been a very long night.”

“Fine,” I roll my eyes. “I’ll be there shortly.”
“Great, I already sent the car to you.” He says, “You weren’t answering your phone.”
I drop the call and fling his phone onto my bed, feeling even more upset with him for ruining my hard-earned rest. I don’t bother changing, I slip on a pair of sandals and head outside, where I find Kingston’s car flashing its headlights.
Behind the wheel is someone I don’t recognise, yet he knows me, but thankfully, he doesn’t try making conversation with me. The ride is brief and quiet. The man points in the direction of Rowan and Kingston although they’re not exactly hard to find because I can hear my name echoing all the way down the bridge. The bridge is fucking useless, it’s just about as bad as climbing up the mountain used to be.
I stop when I can see them, Kingston is standing on the railing while Rowan holds on to his feet for extra measure. The idiot can barely stand straight, and yet there he is, playing with his life. “Oh, thank Jesus.” Rowan sighs when he sees me.
