I knew the council would call but they came too early, I barely had time to think or analyse anything. I was handling Alpha Fenwick and the threat he posed over a rapist.
Ten minutes ago, my father called to let me know he and his council were coming for an emergency meeting, and they wanted my council to be present. Of course, I initially said no to that, and used the unavailability of my council as an excuse, but they were already on their way, and Rowan had been informed to prepare mine. Giving me two hours in advance.
It’s been a very unnerving two hours, and an even more unsettling ten minutes since everyone gathered. Aeliana should be present too, but she’s sleeping now, and I don’t intend on waking her up for this ambush.
Maddox and I are in the kitchen, downing shots before I have to face the council and listen to more of their bullshit, which I assume is a continuation from last time we met. “They pulled Cristina out of retirement,” I snicker. “They’re working overtime to prove Aeliana is unstable.”
“Oh,” Maddox nods, realisation slowly covering his face. “So that’s why they were at the hospital yesterday.”
“At the hospital?” I frown.
“Yeah,” he takes another shot, clearing his throat. “Elder Xander was in the psychiatric department, and they requested Aeliana’s medical records.”
“What? Why wasn’t I informed about this?” I frown, “Why would they just give away that information? Is that not a breach of confidentiality?”
“They came with an order from the werewolf council, they don’t need to inform you.”
Fuck.
The werewolf council? When did things escalate to that point? And why wasn't I informed? Is Gamma Hartley really on Aeliana’s side or just showing off in the pack council to appear like a concerned Father?
“Eleanor told me about it,” he says.
“And?”
“What?” He frowns.
“What do you think? You’re not her doctor, you’re not breaking confidentiality, and I’m not breaking my agreement with her by asking you.”
He takes a deep breath, “Not good.” He shakes his head. “I took a look at her record, and it’s bad.”
“But she’s making progress,” I frown. “She’s been going daily.”
“Yes,” he nods. “But it’s...I’m not going to lie to you, but pushing Sera down the stairs cancels what little progress she made.”
“Fuck, it's that bad?” I hiss, the liquor making its way back up my throat but I swallow it down.
Maddox sucks in a breath, “Not really. What do you think they want to do with them?”
“Replace her,” I snicker. “It’s s been clear from the first meeting, they’ll try to paint her as unfit.”
“Unstable,” Maddox corrects me. “She hurt her sister.”
“It was an accident,” I snap. Tired of hearing the same tale all around the house. Even though it was an accident, the fact remains that Aeliana pushed her.
“Right,” Maddox frowns, appearing offended that I had to tell him. “But in that room?” He points out the door. “It's attempted murder, Kingston.”
“I know,” I groan, massaging my temples. “But I won't let them hurt Aeliana, I need you to get my council on the line.”
