“The doctors don’t think it’s a good idea for her to leave, much less after her escape.”
“I didn't like leaving her there,” Maddox groans. “She seemed done.” His voice drops, “She didn’t even fight it like last time.”
“It’s a good thing, is it not?” Danielle frowns.
“No,” he sighs. “It’s worrying.”
Dani nods, “Well, I already trained the house staff to rotate around her schedule so they won’t crash into her at any point. The drills are working.”
“Bringing her home only to seclude her again will make her even angrier,” Rowan chimes in. “That’s why it’s better she stays there.”
“I’m going to talk to James again,” I groan, massaging my temples. “Something is wrong, they’re doing something to her that's making her act out.”
“King, stop being paranoid,” Maddox tsks. “Aeliana is fine there. What do you want?”
“My mate,” I swallow. “That’s what I want. I want the old Aeliana back. I don’t want the one who cries while I’m sleeping next to her because she hates life, but then proceeds to flash me the brightest smile in the morning. I want the happy Aeliana.”
Maddox pats my back, his hand lingering. “You’ll get her, she’ll be back to herself again.”
“I think that Aeliana died when we left her,” Rowan murmurs. “She’s never been the same since we left for the academy.”
“Question,” Danielle raises her hand. “Umm, why did you guys stop being friends with her?” She frowns. “When I met you, she was all you talked about, and you too.” She slaps Rowan’s arm, causing him to wince. “She was the closest female to you. So what changed?”
“It was—”
My phone begins to vibrate in my lap. “Hold on,” I tell them. “Nurse Evelyn is calling me.”
“Ellie’s nurse?”
“Yes,” I nod, sliding the answer and pressing the phone against my ear. “Hello?”
“Alpha Kingston, good evening.” She greets. “I hope this isn't a bad time.”
