I expect Maddox to stay back and flirt with Evelyn, but he accompanies me to James' office, and Evelyn follows us too. Evelyn goes ahead of us, and Maddox takes his time watching her from behind, forcing me to lower my pace as well.
James is already on his feet when we enter. He has been avoiding meeting with me since I last showed up at his house to ask what the hell Aeliana meant by what she said when I last saw her. “Alpha Kingston,” he swallows, nervously clinging to his desk. “I didn’t know you were coming. What can I do for you today?”
“Is it done?”
“What?” He pauses, appearing as lost as the last time we spoke.
“Have you filled out the application?” I clarify, my patience wearing thinner now that I'm getting crippled with anxiety from what Aeliana will do. She’s definitely going to kill for this. Pups weren’t in the plans, she didn’t want any, not this soon.
“Oh,” his eyes widen. “Not yet, Alpha. I wouldn’t recommend early release for Luna Aeliana. I think that escape set her back a few steps. Your wife attacked me yesterday.”
“What?” Evelyn gasps. “That's impossible, Sir, she’s not violent at all.” She shakes her head, “I spend the whole day with her, and no matter how annoying I get, she doesn’t resort to violence. She isn’t violent.”
James glares, “To you.”
“I want you to process her discharge request a little sooner than planned.” I tell him, “Sometime between now and the next five minutes.”
“Alpha Kingston, I can in no good faith let you take her home.” He sighs, doodling on his desk. “Luna Aeliana is where she has to be right now. I can’t sign off. I was going to approve it before because she seemed to be doing better, but recent events have proved that she isn’t ready for the outside world again.”
“I know exactly what the agreement was, and when I signed those papers, I was assured she was safe here. So why was she attacked?”
“That was an oversight by the nurses, I assure you it—”
“What happens when one of your patients hurts her?” I snap. “What are the repercussions of your carelessness with my mate and our child ?”
His eyes widen, a hint of terror flickering through them. “Child?”
“She’s pregnant.” Maddox says, “Why didn’t you take her labs when she got here?”
“Luna Aeliana is pregnant?” He gasps, appearing more shocked than I am. “Did she tell you that? It could be another strategy of hers since her last escape backfired. Just like the tales she’s been spinning about being electrocuted.”
“I confirmed it myself,” Evelyn tells him. “She’s pregnant, five weeks.”
