Alpha’s Rue: His Shunned Luna (Athena Enchanted) novel Chapter 428

“Hey, clearly we’ve made some bad decisions,” I tell Kingston. “There’s yours…” I trail off, all three of us momentarily turning towards Aeliana.

She frowns when she catches us looking, and we all turn away. “She’s fine. She’ll get better.” Kingston confidently says.

“Not to be a Maddox downer,” Rowan says, an inside joke. “But are you about that sure? I mean, she seems really….Riley.”

Kingston nods, “I am sure of it. I tried something today.”

“You were in her head,” I whisper.

“Yes, I manipulated the bond.”

“Why?” Rowan almost whispers. “You promised you wouldn’t do that. What changed? You were supposed to wait for her to mark you and seal it all the way like you’d always said.”

“I was desperate, Row.” He sighs. “Look at her,” his eyes find her again. “That is not my mate. She looks like her, but she doesn’t sound anything like my Aeliana. Hell, she walks differently, too, and it scares me.” He swallows. “More so after that night she snuck out.”

“I was surprised to see her there. I thought she was with her sister and that other one.” I hiss, unable to say Audrey’s name still. I can’t bring myself to even look her in the eye after what happened between us, and I don’t even recall much of it.

“I’ve already lost her too many times,” Kingston tells us. “I can't let her lose herself. And our pup, our little one, deserves to meet his or her mom, not this shallow shopping addict that she’s become. I want our baby to know how she smiles, how passionately she loves her art and how kind she is to everyone.”

Rowan nods softly. “Yeah, I miss the old Aeliana too, she’d know how to solve my problem.”

“She would have felt sorry for me.” I frown. This one—Riley, she told me it was lucky, and it served me right for not liking her back.
