Chapter 442
KINGSTON
Doctor Whitmore arrived today, after days of waiting for him, he finally showed. Rowan and I picked him up from the airport this morning, and he refused to rest. He has another flight this evening and two other patients after seeing Aeliana. I had asked Evelyn and Maddox to bring her downstairs when we arrived, but they didn’t. Aeliana appears to have locked herself in her bedroom.
“Take a seat,” Rowan tells the doctor. “We’re delighted to have you, Doctor Whitmore.”
“Thank you,” he nods, setting his briefcase down beside him.
“I’m going to get Aeliana,” I tell him. “But before I do that, I think it’s only fair that I warn you of her current state. She might not be the best patient, but I promise she’s very kind. She just happens to hate doctors with all that has happened.”
!
He nods, “I would expect no less, Alpha Kingston.” He says, having heard everything that I could on our way here “But no one hates doctors, we are the most beloved beings. What your mate is going through is traumatic. She doesn’t hate us, she hates captivity.”
“I don’t understand.”
“Your mate associates doctors with captivity.” He tells me, “The place where she lost all control was filled with doctors, and had she been in a church, she would hate priests and deities. She hates the feeling of helplessness that requires our aid.” 1
I nod. “I understand, but she hates everything now, she doesn’t like me much either. I’ve been trying to assure her that she’s safe, but that hasn’t worked out quite well.”
“You can’t assure her, Alpha Kingston. Safety is experienced. She will have to experience it first-hand. Your mate is suffering from trauma-induced dissociation.”
“She’s herself now.”
“But she could easily go back to being the other again. There are some experiences which are beyond what the mind can process, and that is exactly what happened with her. The mind could not register the tragic events, and so it separated itself from that experience. Which is how the other personality was formed. Your mate couldn’t believe everything that was happening, and she decided it wasn’t happening.”
I swallow. “Can you fix her?”
His response is quick, “No.” He tells me, “But she can heal. I won’t know how for sure until I’ve had a chance to meet her.”
“I’ll fetch her,” I say, heading upstairs to speak with Aeliana. By the staircase, I meet Evelyn, whom I send to my office to interact with the doctor while I convince Aeliana to meet him.
I find Maddox out her door, tired and glued to the wall beside it. I try to open the door, but it’s locked from the inside. “Ellie?”
“I’m not going anywhere,” she retorts, her voice distant.
“Just downstairs, it’ll be in my office. Doctor Whitmore is already here.”
“I don’t want to, Kingston.” I hear her growl. “Why do you insist on forcing me?”

“This is the only thing I’ll force on you.”
“I’m not indulging you,” she snaps.
Maddox lightly taps on the door, “Aeliana…” he sings.
Her response is instant, “No.” She tsks, “I don’t like you either.”
Maddox frowns, his gaze shifting to me. “Is this a bad time to miss Riley? She loved me.”
“What?” Aeliana asks from behind the door.
“Shut up maddox.” I tsk. “Ignore him, baby.”
“I’m kidding, we wouldn’t trade you for anything, Luna Aeliana, but please come out and see the psychiatry specialist.”
“Why?” She asks, kicking at the door. “Why don’t I see you? You’re here, and so is Evelyn.”
“I don’t know how to help you,” he tells her. “Get injured, have an organ or two fail, and I will take excellent care of you, but this? I don’t know how to do any of this, and I would be an idiot to want to try because this is your sanity. I can’t experiment with that.”
“Evelyn is still here,” she grumbles.
“She’s an amazing nurse, but there are limitations,” he sighs. “Think of it like having you teach a psychology class when your speciality is astrophysics.”
“I’m still not interested,” she quietly says.
“Siren, please, he came from far.” I beg, “Booking him was very-”
“Expensive?” She snickers. “Yeah, I didn’t ask for him.”
I was going to say hard. His f*e is by the hour, and I have no problem paying triple his rate. I don’t fully trust him. Either, but I will be in the room with them the entire time. “It’s not about the money, it’s about time, his and yours.”
“I’m getting irritated now, please give me some space.
“If you don’t come down, then I’m bringing him up,” I warn.
Silence.
And then the door opens, her gaze so fiery that I take a step back. “Excuse you?”
“Let me try that again.”
“Uh-huh,” she nods.
“We are having a baby.”
“Yes?” She frowns, arms crossed over her chest in protest.
“We have a responsibility towards our pup, Ellie, our pup needs us at our best, our happiest-”
“I’m not happy,” She snaps.
“More reason to see the doctor,” Maddox chimes in. “I doubt Rowan can entertain him much longer.”
