Chapter 443

When we meet doctor Whitmore, Rowan and Maddox leave, so it’s just me, Aeliana and him in the room. I sit right next to her, staring at the wall with my noise-cancellation headphones on so I don’t hear anything, as per her request. I tell her to tap my thigh when she feels she’s done with the doctor, but she doesn’t, they seem to get on well enough for her not to end the meeting early.

About twenty minutes in, Aeliana taps my thigh, and it’s not because she’s done, but because the meeting is over, and the first thing that I notice are the streaks of tears on her cheeks, which she wipes away immediately she feels my gaze on her.

Only after walking doctor Whitmore out do I learn that he and Aeliana already discussed a treatment plan that she feels comfortable with, and Evelyn weighed in on that conversation. Three sessions every week, mental and physical exercise, journaling when she feels out of place and overall relaxation. He also recommended we go unmedicated because she could easily develop a dependency on the drugs, and it’d ruin her progress. 1

Evelyn is already mapping out the new schedule for her, and I will make sure it is followed to a T. When im not here, Evelyn will be. I’m thinking of making her a more flexible offer, one where she doesn’t have to travel back and forth, but still has her freedom outside work hours.

“Is he gone?” Aeliana asks just as I return from escorting Dr Whitmore. She was with Evelyn ten minutes ago, and Evelyn must still be mapping her new schedule in my office.

I nod, watching her closely. She seems less agitated now, but she looks just as spooked. “How do you feel?”

“Fine,” she shrugs.

“Is Evelyn alone?” Maddox asks from the sofa, “I’ll go and keep her company, this house can be strange when you’re new.”

“Sit,” I warn. I don’t like this recent fixation he has for Evelyn, and the last thing I need is to lose Aeliana’s nurse because one of the pack doctors didn’t want to cuddle after hooking up with him. “Ellie, are you okay with your treatment plan?” I ask, my eyes searching hers. “I know you agreed on it with him, but it’s very important that you follow it.”

She growls at that, “I know that, I’m not an idiot, Kingston. Stop talking to me like I am.” She snaps, walking away from me.

“My apologies, Siren.” I sigh, following closely behind her. “Where are you going?”

She pauses, pining me with an irritated glare. “To get-” she pauses, the irritation in her eyes moulding into agitation, I already know who it is that she sees before I turn. The way she tenses up and how Maddox groans is enough of a clue.

“Hi,” Audrey says.

I’m met with the widest smile and flicker of hands that are certainly not meant for me. She wasn’t here yesterday, and right now, she’s in her pyjamas. “What the hell are you still doing here?” I snap, stepping in front of Aeliana.

“Me?” She frowns, looking back to check if anyone is near her, and there is, Rita is here too, but that’s not who I’m talking to.

“I thought I told you to stay away from Aeliana.”
