Chapter 452
“When I took the abortion pill, I was sort of out of it, and I think I did something wrong because I nearly bled out at the airport.”
“Oh, my God!”
“And the baby…” her face falls. “Well, my brothers rushed me to the hospital, but one of them didn’t make it.”
I pause, trying to follow, but stuck. “What do you mean by one didn’t make it?”
“I don’t know what really happened, but when I woke up, I was at home with daddy, and he was praying over me, asking the goddess to let him have us, and he’d do all he pledged.”
“Us?” I frown, “Noah…are you-” I pause when I hear someone knocking on my door.
“Ellie?” Rowan calls from the other end. Both Noah and I stare at the door. “Kingston just called, he says you didn’t answer your
phone, so I have to make sure you’re still here.”
My phone?
It’s still on the nightstand where I put it last night, still on silent because I wasn’t taking any calls, regardless of the ring setting
being on.
“Yep, still here.” I tell him, “My phone is on silent.”
“Oh, can I get a picture? He sounded pretty concerned you’d run off.”
“Umm…maybe “I turn towards Noah first, to confirm if she’s comfortable with having him around, and she nods. “Come in.”
The door creaks open. Rowan is staring down at his phone. “I swear he is driving me…” he hows silent when his gaze lifts, instantly locked on Noah. He blinks, rubbing his eyes before staring at her again. “Noah, Hi.” He rasps, unable to believe his
eyes still.
Noah scoots closer to me. “Hi,” she calmly says, not as cheerful as she often is, but her voice is much steadier than Rowan’s.
“You said you wanted a picture,” I remind him.
“Umm, yeah,” he nods, his gaze shifting from Noah back to me. “He’s a little paranoid lately.”
“Tell him I’m fine,” I smile, posing for the picture he wants. He takes the picture and lowers his phone, staring at Noah once again. “Everything is fine, I have my girl with me.”
“I see,” he swallows. “How are you, Noah?”
Γ
“And you stayed in the car,” I gasp.
She nods. “Yes, I didn’t know what I’d say to him. Didn’t know what he would say, and I was scared.”
“Scared?” I scoff. “My honey, he should be the scared one after what he did to you. Damien told me all about it when he came to
visit.”
“He, in fact, is very brave,” she says with an eyeroll. “I had asked him to leave before my brothers came close, but he was acting brave and when they scented him on me? They nearly killed him,” she tells me, physically shaking off the memory. “If my baby didn’t try to kill me that day, he’d be dead.”
“Circle back,” I trail off, picking up from where we left off before the door interrupted us. “You’re pregnant?”
“Yes.” She nods, her cheeks flushing.
