Chapter 455

KINGSTON

Aeliana has been a wreck all morning.

She didn’t want to come to her appointment, and when using Noah didn’t work today, she faked being ill I don’t think she realised it was giving me more reasons as to why exactly she needed not to miss her appointment. I would’ve rescheduled, but the cramps she experienced two days ago worried me. She was going to lock herself it, her room, but Noah convinced her to come, and while I did invite her to tag along, she preferred to wait at home.

It’s just us in the room, but it feels so heavy. This is it, this is the moment we finally get to see our child. I’d imagined this day so many times, each time we were happier and so much more alive than we are right now. Aeliana is silent, staring up at the ceiling.

“Are you nervous?” I ask an obvious question; I can clearly see she is, but I just need to get her out of her head for a few minutes

until the doctor walks in and eases her worries.

She nods, her eyes shifting to me. “Yeah, you?”

“Very,” I whisper, trying to get a handle on my jittery foot.

Are we ready for this, King? I mean…”

“Calm down,” I tell her, taking her hand in mine. “Everything will be okay, we’ll make it through, it’s just an ultrasound.”

“What if something is wrong?”

“Nothing is wrong with our pup.”

“But the cramping…” she trails off, staring into nothing. “And I think I bled that day.”

She bled? “What day?” I frown, I’ve been around her every single day and not once has she bled or even thrown up.

She blinks, her wide eyes finding mine again. “Um, it was before I ran away. Let’s just get this done, can we?” She swallows. “I don’t want to talk about it, and don’t ask why you didn’t know because you wouldn’t have believed me.”

“I would’ve tried to understand you better, I’d have gotten you home sooner.”

“But you didn’t!” She snaps. “You-no. Let’s just….baby. Focus on the baby.”

I nod, wondering why Evelyn hadn’t mentioned this to me, or Aeliana herself. I thought she was being stubborn by escaping. I believed her doctors when they claimed she’d do anything to leave that place. Aeliana wasn’t well, but sending her away is the biggest mistake I’ve ever made, and she could have lost our child due to the stress she was under.

“Don’t fucking sulk and play the sad card right now because I will injure you, Kingston.” She warns, her hand squeezing mine. I swear to God I’ll injure you.”

“I won’t,” I swallow. “I know this is about the pup, and I’m going to present now. I’m in the moment, nothing else matters.”

She nods, “Good.”

“Alpha Kingston.” The doctor calls, walking into the room again.

I blink, my gaze shifting to her. “Hello.”

“Are you ready for your first scan?” She asks with a polite smile. “I’m honoured to be able to-”

It clicks to me that she’s speaking to me, and not the person she’s here for. “Say hello to my mate.”
