Chapter 458
“I don’t recall, but it-um, was out of it for days.”
“I see.” She nods.

“Whe-when?” I stutter, my ears ringing from what I just heard. It’s the first time I’m hearing about this “When did this happen? Aeliana?” I choke out, my words strangled. The list of things that happened to Aeliana in the place I decided was better for her than my care keeps piling, and whenever I think it can’t get worse, it does, and I’m to blame for it.
“Let’s not talk about it, please,” she tells me, her gaze shifting back to Bridget. “I want…doctor, tell me about the baby. What can I do?”
“The best you can do for this pup is to be patient, and don’t stress yourself, your pregnancy is still in the early stages, and stress could affect you and your baby, let’s avoid that, hmm?”
“Okay,” she nods, forcing a smile.
My stomach twists with unease. How can she still smile after all this? How did this not get back to me? Not even Evelyn mentioned it to me. “I’m serious, Luna Aeliana. The pup is doing great, there’s more than hope, it’ll grow.”
“And if it doesn’t?”
“We will investigate further, aside from size, this looks like a very healthy baby,” Bridget tells her. She keeps talking, but I don’t hear it, my eyes are fixed on Aeliana. I hurt her. I may not have directly done anything to her, but I put her in the institution. They electrocuted her, they molested her, and there’s probably more that I don’t know of, but it didn’t just happen to her, it happened to our child, too. The child I was so sure I wouldn’t fail like I did my mate, but it’s too late already.
I’m the reason our pup is smaller, I’m the reason my mate seems to hate life now. How did we get here? I’ve been obliviously ending the woman I live for, the one who keeps me going when the weight of expectations starts to crush me. She saves me. She brings life to me, and I tried to bury her alive?
“Alpha Kingston?” Bridget calls. “I was just saying that you could pick up the medicine from the reception, and confirm your next appointment to a preferred date, no sooner than seven days.”
“Thank you,” I swallow, the lump in my throat immovable now. I try to help Aeliana clean off her stomach, but she declines, and I don’t try again. I don’t deserve to. If she were to up and run from me tonight? I wouldn’t run after her. I’ve lost the right to fight anyone who hurts her because nothing, they do will ever come close to what I’ve done to her. To our child.
I seem to be on autopilot as we leave. She does most of the talking at the reception, and in the car, she doesn’t talk to me at all, she puts on some loud music, but I don’t hear a single tune. My mind is still back in that room, unable to move on from the
words she said.
