“Did I?” I frown, feigning confusion just to mess with him, but his expression quickly turns horrified.” Just kidding,” I snort. “I did see you, which brings me to my next question.”
“Yes?”
“Why are you spending all your time in here? I thought we’d talked about you shadowing me.”
“I’m not doing that anymore,” his face furrows. “Well, not more than necessary.”
“And what is necessary to you?”
His lips part, but he doesn’t speak, he simply stares, his eyes searching mine. “Are you trying to pick a fight with me?” He raises an eyebrow. “Because I have something better we can argue about.”
“No,” I shrug. “Why would I be picking fights with you? I was just curious.”
His lips twitch with a smile. “You’re bored, aren’t you?”
“Not really,” I shrug. But I did try to pick a fight with him, I’m chasing that normal between us a little too hard. “I mean, my Noah is here, so we have plenty of things to do together.”
“Like what?” He smiles. “Sneaking into the garden?”
“You were there?” I gasp. “See, I knew someone was watching!”
“What do you mean?”
“I told Noah I felt watched and she insisted no one was there, but clearly it was you.” I smile, feeling lighter now that I know he was there, but then his smile fades, replaced with a familiar concern, the kind that holds fear.
“I wasn’t there,” he almost whispers. “I know because the patrol team informed me.”
“Oh,” I swallow. “Then it must’ve been because I was tired.”
“Who did you see?” He frowns.
“No one,” I shake my head against the pillow. I can not speak further on this, no one else seems to see what I do and I could very well be hallucinating. “It was the garden, and it’s pretty dark so…”
“Maybe,” he nods, gently stroking my hair. “I’ll have some lights installed.”
“That’s not necessary,” I snicker. “It was a one-time thing; we were trying to recreate the scent of rain mixing with the dirt.”
He laughs, “Which one of you was craving that?”
I freeze. “Huh?”
“Was it you?” He asks, smiling still.

“Yeah,” I sigh. I wish she could stay longer, but I can look forward to the days when she comes back to Mooncrest. “Her dad sent the jet yesterday, and she should have left before that.”
“Would you like to go and visit her pack for a bit?” He asks, his eyes searching mine again.
“You’d let me?” I frown. He seems to have gotten pretty clingy lately, and he doesn’t exactly do well when he doesn’t see me within certain time intervals.
“You can do whatever you want,” he shrugs. “I wouldn’t stop you.” He smiles, caressing my cheeks. “And I know you’d be safe with Noah, her brother has one hell of a right hook.”
“How do you know that?” I frown. As far as I know, Rowan is the only one who got beat up by her brothers.
“He may have punched me for speaking up on Rowan’s behalf, but it’s old news, we’re past that.”

“I see,” I nod.
“Well, what’s the plan? With the pup. Does she plan on keeping it from Rowan?” 1
