I woke up with the worst case of nausea this morning, not just me, Kingston had it too. I threw up twice because I couldn’t stomach the possibility of hearing Doctor Bridget tell me the pup still hasn’t started growing today when I have done everything and more for it to grow.

The second time I threw up, I sobbed. Kingston comforted me, he assured me there was nothing to be afraid of only for him to throw up the moment I left the bathroom. It’s truly been an eventful morning, breakfast was hard too, every bite I ate came right back up, and I had to leave the table before I ruined everyone’s day

Damien came out and ate with me while we waited for Kingston to come out of his office after his meeting. We left home immediately after he was done with his meeting, and I drove to keep my mind off the baby. It didn’t help. I’m back in Doctor Bridget’s examination room, staring at the ceiling with my trembling fingers threaded through Kingston’s.

“You’re okay.” He tells me, kissing my hand. “And so is the baby. Right, Bridget?”

Bridget?

My gaze shifts, she wasn’t here a moment ago. It was just us, but now she’s applying the gel on my belly. Only now do I realise how out of touch I was until now, I didn’t even feel that brief chill I did the last time she did this.

“We’ll find out in a moment,” she says, staring at the monitor while effortlessly moving the wand to find the baby. I squeeze Kingston’s hand, braced for bad news.

“Wow.” That’s the first thing she says, squinting through her glasses. I can’t tell if it’s a good wow or a bad one, her poker face is lethal, and so is her tone. “This is amazing,” she says.

“What?” I ask, my voice hoarse and my heart just about to fall out of my ass. “Is everything okay?”

“More than okay, I was expecting some growth, but you have yourself an overachiever.” She says, and this time, I see a slight smile on her lips.

Still, I feel really dumb here. I know what she just said, but the things she said the last time I was here are tricking my brain into processing her words slightly differently. Thankfully, I’m not the only one second-guessing my hearing.
