Chapter 504

Noah is asleep until I sit down in the chair beside her, or at least I think she is. “Rowan,” she gasps, her eyes snapping wide open like she hadn’t been conscious before. The fear from earlier still lingers in her eyes.

“Hey Hero,” I smile. “How are you feeling?”

“Like I’m in trouble,” she shifts, the hand on her belly unmoving.

“You’re not.”

“What happened?” She asks, her gaze shifting around the room as if only now noticing the room she is in.

I shake my head, “Everything’s fine now.”

Her gaze meets mine again, “Everything?” Her eyes slightly widen. “Even..um…” she trails off, her gaze falling.

“Yes, Noah.” I nod with a slight smile. “The baby is fine too.”

“Really?”

“Yes. I’ll get the doctor, and you can ask him yourself.” I tell her, rising from my seat but she reaches out and stops me.

“No,” she shakes her head. “I believe you.”

“Your nurse is outside,” I clear my throat. “Do you want me to get her for you?”

“No,” she slowly shakes her head. “Stay.”

I blink, unsure if I heard her right. I was sure she would want me gone the moment she regained consciousness because she doesn’t seem to enjoy when I’m around, and so I avoided her often, “You want me to stay with you?” I ask. “Are you sure?”

“Yes,” she laughs, life returning to her face again. “Why do you look so surprised?”

“You hate me.”

Her smile falls, “I don’t hate you. I hate how you treated me. ‘That’s different, Row.”

“I’m sorry.’

“And I’m sorry too,” she sighs. “I lied to you while being mad at you for lying, that doesn’t look good on me. I was going to tell you the truth, I just didn’t know how, and Aeliana was working me towards Kinding the courage, but the words just couldn’t come out. I guess that’s why she told you herself.”

“Told me?” I frown. I haven’t seen much of Aeliana since the day we dropped Noah off at the airport. She’s been glued to Kingston so he doesn’t leave the house often, which leaves me taking care of things for him. Most times when I see her, she’s either busy or sleeping on Kingston. “Aeliana didn’t tell me anything, she’d never betray your trust that way. Again, sorry I did.”

Something flashes in her eyes and she seems to relax more at the realisation that Aeliana didn’t betray her. “So then how did you find out?”

“Find out that you were pregnant?” I frown. I’ve known since the moment she came back. I never brought it up because it felt unspoken between us, and I didn’t want to rush her into anything. “Noah, I’ve felt our baby inside you from the moment it formed ”

“Yeah,” she nods. “But, I got the abortion.” I almost whisper

“You did?” I frown. I simply thought she hadn’t gone through with it

“Yeah,” the quietly says, guilt evident in her tone. “But I did something wrong, and it only took one baby. We were going to have twins,” she swallows “Surprise.”

“I didn’t know that,” I sigh, trying not to react. “And I also didn’t know you were still pregnant when you returned because you were holding, but just as I was about to leave Aeliana’s room, I felt it. I felt our baby.”

Her eyes widen, “What?

“I’ve always known,” I tell her. “And thought you knew I did, I just didn’t want to rush the conversation before you were ready.”

She blinks, a million thoughts running through her mind, but I can’t tell what they are. Her mental shield has gotten better since she came back, or maybe the rift in our bond has grow stronger. “That day outside….”

“I knew.” I nod.

“The night you caught me in the kitchen and stayed up with me,” she says, recounting all the moments when I could have said something but I didn’t.

“You’were nauseous,” I smile. Her nose was scrunching so hard because she couldn’t handle the scent of the snack she had clearly been craving every time she took a bite. “I used my pheromones to make you feel better.”
