“Breathe,” he tells me. “Don’t worry about that. We’ll get our daughter the best options we can, hmm?”
My lips twitch with a smile. I love our gender arguments, it’s not even about the preferred sex anymore. I’m just as eager to play dolls as I am to play with trains and swords, all of which I still can with a girl. “Son.” I correct him.
“We’ll see about that,” he yawns, trying to mask it with a sneeze. “I’ve never had to wait this long for anything. This has definitely taught me more patience. I can’t wait for our baby to finally join us out here, and I’ll enjoy seeing you in mama bear mode.”
“Is that so?”
“Definitely, you will be amazing.” He tells me, kissing my forehead.
“Of course I will,” I confidently say. I was scared, I still am, but a very wise woman and mother whom I idolise told me that I’d make the best mom because I had a shitty one. “Because I’ll raise our kids how I wanted to be raised.”
We are interrupted by someone from behind us who calls for Kingston, but we both turn. “Good morning, Luna Aeliana,” he cheerfully greets.
“Good morning.” I smile, not knowing who it is that I’m speaking to. He’s dressed like some of the patrol guards, but I know most of them, so he must be new.
His eyes shift to Kingston, “Alpha, can I have a word with you?”
“Do you have news for me?” He asks.
“Yes. We called Miller today.”
“Excuse me, baby.” Kingston rises, dusting himself off. “I’ll be back in a minute.”
Kingston leads the man away from me. They don’t go far. I can still see them, but I can’t hear them, and I suck at reading lips now. Kingston appears distressed for a moment, and I watch as they interact. When they’re done, he pats the man on the shoulder and comes back to me.
He doesn’t even try to hide his distress, his foot gets jittery the moment he sits down. “What happened?”
