Evelyn comes in while I’m eating, grinning from ear to ear. “There’s my favourite patient.”

“Good morning, you seem happy”

“I am,” She nods, pulling a chair opposite me. “It’s your birthday,” she says. “Can I say happy birthday, or do you dislike that?”

“I’m not the holiday grinch,” I frown. “But yes. Don’t say happy birthday to me because you’re annoying.”

“You love me,” she giggles. “You can’t fool me anymore, Luna Aeliana, we’re tight.”

“I’m not sure,” I pause, “But I do know who you love,” I tease, my words immediately flustering her.

Now it’s my turn to laugh. “Is he home?”

“Alpha Kingston?” She frowns, feigning confusion. “No, he said he’d be back later, he had an emergency at the export company.”

“I don’t know if you’re getting dumb, or simply assuming that I am,” I frown. “You know who I’m talking about.”

She shrugs, “He went out with Alpha Kingston.”

“And didn’t even say happy birthday.” I shake my head.

“He wanted to,” she says. “But you were asleep. He had a gift for you too, it’s on the table.”

A gift?

I get up, carrying my tray with me. Evelyn follows with my juice, and when I enter the living room, I’m so stunned that the tray falls out of my hands. I didn’t really pay much attention when I came downstairs, I was too focused on going into the kitchen but no, I see it all. Half the room is full of flowers, wrapped presents, bows, teddy bears, it’s a lot. “Oh my God.”

“Nice, huh?”

“Who did this?” I gasp, watching one of the maids bring more packages inside.

“People,” Evelyn says. “Your people. You are very loved, Luna Aeliana. I’ve never seen this many flowers or gifts in one place. It

looks like a store.”

Evelyn smiles at me from her seat, toying with a watch that I haven’t seen on her before, but I’ve seen it on Maddox. He wears the same one nearly every day, and he gave it to her. “That’s a little big,” I say, “Do you need it resized? I can call the jeweller.”

“It’s not mine,” she bites out. “I’m just borrowing it.”

“Aww, he likes you.” I smile. “Do you like him too? And since you’re always yapping to me, let me yap to you. But about Maddox.”

“Luna Aeliana,” her cheeks flush.

“Why are you so shy, Evelyn?” I pause, “I mean it’s pretty clear you guys have something.”

She nods, “Maybe.” She smiles, “He’s different. I’m used to being around doctors, and they always think they’re better than everyone else, but he’s different. He doesn’t talk over me, and he argues science with me. I like that,” She nods. “And he’s a good kisser.”

“Evelyn!” I squeal.
