I’ve never had a party this big just for me.

The room is filled with love and laughter, and I’m surrounded by my favourite people. From where I sit, I can see my other favourite people, especially the mother I never had. I’ve looked over at her table three times, and two out of three times, she seemed to feel me looking at her and blew me kisses. I was always scared of her when I was younger. I kept her at arm’s length because I didn’t want to disappoint her if she got close and saw what everyone else seemed to see, but it’s like I made a mistake, one that I’m rectifying now.

I’m laughing at something River says when I notice, the absence in the chair next to me.

Kingston is gone. I didn’t see him leave, but it’s been a while since I felt his hand on my thigh. I look around for him, but I can’t seem to find him. The room is filled with people, but I should be able to spot Kingston out. It’s one of the perks of the bond. “A, what’s wrong?” Damien asks from across the table, and when he speaks, half the table turns to look at me.

“Nothing,” I shake my head. “I was just looking for Kingston.”

“I’ll find him for you,” Damien says, “I’m getting roasted by Ree anyway.

“Aww, baby.” River pouts, “I’m so sorry, hmm? You know I love you.”

He gives River a kiss as he rises.

“He must be with his friend, that tall one from earlier,” Noah says, cutting Danielle’s steak into bite-sized pieces. Initially, Dani had asked Rowan to do it, but instead of passing the plate to him, Noah offered to do it herself.

I was surprised, but it seems like they’ve had time to get close while she was pretending she wasn’t in Mooncrest. They’re even finishing each other’s jokes and it’s certainly weird.

“Here,” she says with a smile, switching out her plate for his. Hers is full of pasta, which she wouldn’t eat before, but she appears to be enjoying her plate very much.

Danielle’s cheeks flush when she looks down at her plate and then thanks Noah. I start looking for Kingston and Damien, and when they finally show up, King looks a little pale. I watch him until he finds his seat again. “Miss me?”

I nod, “Are you okay?” I frown, my eyes searching his. His jacket is with Damien, and he now has an extra button

undone on his shirt.

Kingston nods, forcing a smile, but then Damien speaks. “I found him throwing up in the bathroom.”

“You still have morning sickness?” Maddox frowns. “I thought you were past the sympathetic symptoms now.”
