Aeliana was still asleep when I woke up, and while I did wake up a little later than usual, I didn’t wake her. I simply went out to the gym, and surprisingly, I was alone there. None of my Gammas made it to their workout, and I know they weren’t in the training yard because I could hear children playing when I first went outside to fetch my laptop from my car.

I’m headed to my office when I spot Maddox swirling something in a glass. I think the whole house had a ball at Ellie’s party. I haven’t seen anyone wandering around. Not even the maids seem to be in energetic spirits this early.

“Maddox.”

“You’re up early.”

“It’s nine,” I frown. “And I came back home early.”

“Right.” He nods. “You snuck out of the party to eat the birthday girl when we had food there, plenty, actually.”

I snicker. “Funny, but I don’t need an occasion to fuck my wife, and I’ll have you know we had an amazing evening. My daughter kicked.”

“For real?” He gasps. “That’s great news. How’d it go? Did Aeliana cry?”

“She was eating her cupcake.” I smile. “Speaking of babies, I need to talk to you. Do you have a moment?”

“Sure, but I know how babies are made,” he says with a mischievous smile, making his way towards me. “Is it the baby? Is she feeling ill after last night?”

“No, Aeliana is fine.” I sigh. “Sleeping still. She had a great time. I want to talk about you,” I say, leading him into my office.

“About me?” He frowns.

“Hmm,” I hum, finding my seat. “Two days ago, I went into the dungeon to-”

“Do they need something? What’s going around?”

“Let me finish,” I groan. “And sit down, for fuck’s sake.”

“Go on,” he says, taking a seat opposite me.

“As I was saying, two days ago, I had to go to the dungeon sometime after midnight because somebody was

sick.”

“Since when does that warrant a visit from you?”
