Chapter 74
His eyes widen, lips parting a few times but nothing comes out. “What the fuck are you on?”
“Clarity,” I smile. “I needed to come to get to this point, so once again, thank you.”
“Tha-th-thank you?” He stutters, the look on hisface laughable. I turn around before I break character and leave, but not before I hear him muttering. “What the hell?”
I drag myself to the kitchen, and I realise it’s not as early as I thought. The staff haven’t even gotten to cleaning yet, it’s likely four in the morning. I pour myself a glass of water but the wine bottle on the kitchen counter top stares at me, inviting me. I pour the water out and fill it with wine, already past my promises of not drinking again.
The wine tastes good, but not enough to make me stop feeling bad for how I talked to Kingston. He speaks badly to me too, and over another woman, I was doing it for me, but I still can’t shake the guilt. The only thing keeping me from going back to apologise is how fucking sore I am, I should sit in a warm bath when I get up.
“Celebrating?” An annoying voice cuts through my thoughts. “Is it that much of an achievement for you?” it asks.
Audrey.
I’m not in the mood to interact with my problems so I grab my glass, ready to leave the kitchen but when I try to ignore her existence, I’m yanked back by the strands of my hair. “I’m talking to you,” she growls.
My glass of wine falls, shattering into multiple pieces. I pause, my eyes shifting from her to the broken pieces of glass, gone are the days when I wouldn’t fight back. Furious burns in my bones, it’s not just about the wine, or that she yanked me by the hair, it’s more about him-Kingston. I don’t think twice before my arm lashes out but she ducks, smiling like an idiot.
“Oh, my, you really do not have any shame, really, huh?”
My patience starts ticking, fast, and in reverse. “Define shame.” I humour her, waiting for her to give me the description that she is the very embodiment of.
She shrugs, “The opposite of you. A sense of shame for one’s actions, but you, you never feel that, you never
learn.”
“What should I learn?” I snap, the subtle threat behind her words not lost to me. I know this crazy woman better than she thinks. “To hide? I got sick of that game, Audrey.”
“You finally seduced him, congratulations.”
I fight an eyeroll, she couldn’t even sleep knowing he was with me. I’m glad I never lost sleep over them being together because I would be dead. “Seduced is a strong word.”
“So you he did not fuck you.” She asks, an eyebrow raised.
There’s a bit of a hopeful look in her eyes that wants me to say no but she knows the truth. I’m pretty sure everyone heard us. We weren’t trying to be quiet, I could hear the sound of us fucking bouncing off my bedroom walls so I know she heard it outside. “If I say no, will you sleep better at night?”
“No,” she sneers. Staring me up and down with contempt. “But it will just confirm everything that I’ve telling
him, you’re still the same slut even after all these years.” She tsks, “I guess you’ll never change, will you? And to to you luring him to your room, he knows I was right.”
Lured?
