Blake?”

how you put Vince to sleep before? You cast asleep?”

“Yes. Taylor had asked no harm to come to her stupid brother. If I

had known he tried to rape you, I wouldn’t have promised Taylor

anything.” He rolled his eyes.

“Wait, how did Taylor know Vince was there?” This was way too

much information to digest.

“Because Vince called her asking where you were. Apparently, Blake got home to see if you went home without telling anyone and when he got to Taylor’s apartment, she was on the phone with Vince. She

knew something was up with the way he was asking about you. I was

already in Greenwoods. So when the spell led me to the nightclub, I

told Blake I’d get you” he wouldn’t look at me directly. What was his

problem?

“Thank you for finding me. For saving me and for taking me home,”

I said sincerely. That’s what he wanted, to be thanked.

He finally looked at me, his eyes dilating again.

“Here, you left this behind” he held out my engagement ring.

That’s what he had stopped to pick up.

I quickly took it from him and put it on. Even though I knew Blake

would have happily replaced the ring, to me it was more about the

sentiments the ring held.

“How’d you know it was me? I’ve never had a girl know the

difference before” he narrowed his eyes at me.

“Blake’s more warm and fuzzy. You’re more cold and distant. The

way you present yourself, Blake isn’t like that. I know him.”

“So that’s what true love is, huh? The number of times I funked Kora

while pretending to be Blake is astonishing. The never knew the

difference, and they had been together so long” He laughed and

looked down at his phone.

“Well, that’s not going to happen with me. I know! But what I can’t

understand is why you don’t repulse me? Is that some kind of spell

too?” I crossed my arms.

Max’s head snapped up to look at me.

“What?” He asked, surprised.

“Yeah, Blake said that the mark would make your touch repulsive.

But you were just carrying and holding me. There was nothing

repulsive about it. If anything, I felt the same calmness I do when I’m

with Blake. Did you do something? Because when Vince had his hands

on me, I felt gross, and it wasn’t just because he tried to mess with

me.”

Max’s face went pale. He stared at me with a cold expression. Did I

say something wrong? Was this not meant to happen?

“Boss, we’re here,” the driver said, interrupting whatever was

cooking inside Max’s head.
