Chapter 24 The One Who Let Go

As soon as Baldwin boarded the plane, a wave of drowsiness washed over him, but his sleep was anything but peaceful.

“I know I was wrong. Please come back. We can hold the mating ceremony again.

“Florence, where are you? I’m sorry.”

His voice was barely a whisper, hovering between a murmur and a dream.

Kenelm, seated beside him, stayed silent, too afraid to break the tense atmosphere. He kept his presence as minimal as possible.

Roughly half an hour later, Baldwin snapped awake, his head throbbing faintly-like he’d just woken from a dream that had gone on for ages.

But now, he wasn’t sure if it had been a dream or reality.

In that dream, he was still in a meeting with his Beta when Florence called, asking what time he’d be home. She said she’d made his favorite dish.

He glanced at his phone to confirm it really was her calling, then immediately rushed home.

It was already past noon when he arrived. Florence was in the kitchen, moving gracefully among pots and pans.

He reached out, wanting to pull her into his arms.

But his hands caught nothing but air. He turned in confusion, only to realize she was gone. The kitchen was empty.

He woke up with tears already at the corners of his eyes.

Looking around the cramped cabin, he finally remembered-he was on a plane.

Before leaving the Nightfang Pack, his assistant had quietly informed him that Hegreau’s Mene College had recently hired a brilliant new tactical instructor. Rumor had it … that person was Florence.

Digging deeper, Baldwin discovered just how extraordinary she was. Florence had an innate gift for military strategy. There had even been moments when, in the pack’s darkest hours, she’d anonymously sent him advice that turned the tide of battle in his favor.

And yet, she had never told him. Never boasted, never asked for credit. She only kept hurting herself, hoping for a sliver of his attention.

The more he thought about it, the deeper his regret ran. If he had another chance, he wouldn’t let things fall apart.

He would hold onto her hand and never let go.

But the world doesn’t hand out second chances. There’s no machine to reset the past.

Once the plane landed, he headed straight for the address he had been given-Florence’s new residence.

From the corner of his eye, he noticed a man leaning against a sleek car near the house, seemingly waiting for someone too.

Baldwin glanced at him and quickly looked away, but the man turned his head and gave Baldwin a long, unapologetic look.

He frowned at this. Then the front gate of the villa opened—and Florence stepped out.

She wore a simple white dress and soft makeup, looking bright and radiant in the afternoon light.

Without thinking, Baldwin rushed forward. “Florence!”

She stopped in her tracks.

He looked haggard and thinner, with dark circles etched beneath his eyes.

But her expression remained calm. “What do you want?”

“I was wrong,” he said, grabbing her wrist, his voice trembling. “I was blind. Ursa lied—she framed you and forged evidence. I’ve already punished her.”

“So what?” Florence’s smile was cold. “You think that gives you the right to come looking for me?

“But I’ve made up my mind. I won’t beg for the love of someone who doesn’t want me anymore. And I hope you’ll stop interfering with my life.”
