Chapter 25 His Birthday Wish
Axel pulled up in front of a restaurant. Shutting off the engine, he turned to Florence in the passenger seat and grinned.
“Florence, I’ve been on my best behavior today. Don’t you think I deserve a little reward?”
They’d grown more comfortable with each other these past few days, the awkwardness slowly fading.
Florence closed the folder in her lap and raised an eyebrow. “And why, exactly, do you deserve a reward?”
“I played the role of your loving fiancé flawlessly. Even managed to scare off your ex.” His tone was playfully smug.
“You actually looked into my past?” she asked, feigning offense.
Though they had worked together a few times now and had built some familiarity, she couldn’t help but question how he had figured out Baldwin’s identity so quickly.
“Hey, don’t blame me-your story’s not exactly a secret,” Axel replied with a mock pout.
“Still, I think I earned at least something for the effort, right? I’ve worked hard to help you today.”
She had grown used to his playful antics and shook her head with a chuckle. “Fine. What do you want?”
“Lunch,” he said with a grin, hopping out of the car. “Right here. This place just opened, and I’ve been dying to try it.”
He was already stepping out of the car, circling around to open her door with gentlemanly flair, offering her his hand.
Florence hadn’t expected his request to be that simple.
With a smile, she accepted.
Midway through their lunch, Axel set his fork down and looked at her with uncharacteristic seriousness. “Actually, today’s my birthday.”
Florence was stunned by that revelation.
“Wait-what? Why didn’t you tell me earlier? I didn’t get you a gift!”
“No need,” he interrupted gently.
“But since it’s my birthday, can you grant me one wish?”
He looked serious, which was rare for him. Inexplicably, Florence nodded slowly. “Alright.”
He drew in a deep breath. His gaze softened. “Florence, I have a crush on you. From the moment I saw you at the airport, I fell in love with you. And as we’ve gotten to know each other, that feeling’s only grown stronger.
“I want to be with you-for real. Will you be my girlfriend? I want to stand beside you, openly and proudly.
“You don’t have to decide right away. Take your time; test me if you need to. And if, someday, you’re sure of me, I’ll take the oath as your chosen mate. I’ll declare to every wolf in Galeborn Pack that you’re my Luna.
