Chapter 102 Another Survivor Team
“Brandon, calm down!”
**Finished
Arnold hurried to soothe him while pushing Fred’s head down. “This guy got drunk and started rambling. He said he saw rats outside bigger than dogs, and some kind of giant tiger…”
“What?!”
Brandon’s expression changed instantly. Fear appeared on his face. Without even fastening his belt, he grabbed Fred by the collar and shouted harshly, “Where did you see it? Speak clearly!”
Fred was terrified. His hand trembled as he pointed toward a direction outside the supermarket.
Rumble.
The sky slowly began to brighten with the faint light of dawn.
Everything around them seemed far less dangerous than Cecelia had described.
Would the massive wave of tens of thousands of mutated rats really come?
Timothy felt that the road as they left Merriton was strangely quiet.
No, more precisely, it was quiet in a way that felt unsettling.
They hadn’t even seen a single zombie.
He continued driving in the direction leading out of Merriton.
Suddenly, the vehicle jolted violently.
Timothy slammed on the brakes and looked straight ahead.
Boom!
The flat highway suddenly collapsed, creating a massive crater.
Regina was stunned.
Everything had happened so suddenly that she hadn’t even had time to sense it.
Fortunately, Timothy had not been driving very fast.

When his car stopped, the two vehicles behind them also slammed to a halt.
Looking at the deep pit ahead, Timothy frowned and asked Regina, “Is this the only road out?”
Regina quickly replied, “Yes, this is the only road leaving Merriton. But we can temporarily detour in another direction.”
As she spoke, she pointed toward a muddy path sloping down on the right.
Timothy shifted his gaze, reversed the vehicle, and then turned onto the dirt road.
The two vehicles behind him didn’t hesitate and immediately followed.
The ground was still trembling.
After driving about 30 yards along the dirt road, the vibrations finally began to weaken.
Once the shaking completely stopped, the three vehicles pulled over.
Timothy immediately got out and looked back toward the highway.
From a distance, he saw that the road they had planned to take was still collapsing.
The collapsed section stretched more than 30 yards.
“What exactly happened?”
Ivy looked puzzled.
Regina frowned and sent a drone flying toward the area. The drone quickly captured live footage.
Cecelia glanced at the screen.
The collapsed section of road was very long and at least 16 feet deep.
At the bottom of the pit, countless mutated rats were swarming and crawling everywhere.
“It’s the mutated rats causing it!” Regina exclaimed.
Timothy, Hendrick, and the others quickly gathered around.
“Damn.”
Ryan rubbed his arms. “No wonder I’ve had goosebumps this whole time. There are so many of them!”

“Tens of thousands…”
Timothy remembered what Cecelia had said earlier, and his breathing grew heavier.
“Should we keep going?”
Ivy frowned and looked at Cecelia. “Cece, if the mutated rats win, when the swarm disperses, will they scatter in every direction?”
“The mutated rats‘ nests are in the city’s sewer system. Just looking at the collapse tells you how many there are. With numbers like this, the situation won’t stabilize anytime soon.”
After saying that, Cecelia’s expression darkened.
In her previous life, she had only heard about this kind of mutated rat swarm. She had never encountered one personally.
Occasionally she had seen two or three mutated rats, but nothing like this.
Right now, the only thing they could do was wait for the swarm to pass before attempting to cross Merriton again.
“Let’s find shelter first.”
Timothy looked at everyone. “There’s a small village not far from here. We’ll stay there temporarily and wait to see what happens in Merriton.”
Everyone nodded in agreement.
They got back into the vehicles and continued driving.
By now the sky had fully brightened. From a distance of about a mile, they could clearly see the houses of the village.
At the same time-
“Timothy, the drone spotted people in the village!”
“Hm?”
Timothy glanced at her. “What’s going on?”
Regina turned the laptop screen toward him. “There are two vehicles and several people. It looks like they arrived before us. Should we keep going?”
“Yes.”
