Chapter 109 Working Together
Timothy’s and Hendrick’s expressions both darkened at her words.
Ivy blinked in surprise and turned to Cecelia. “Cece…”

“Ivy, I’m just stating the facts.” Cecelia’s voice was calm. “I understand that Timothy values the team’s overall survival. Every decision he makes is meant to increase our chances of living through this
apocalypse. He has his own considerations. If he’s convinced Jerome is bad luck and insists on kicking him out, that’s his call. I respect it.”
As she spoke, she cast Timothy and Hendrick a cool glance. “But I’d appreciate it if you all respected my decision as well. Let’s part on good terms. Don’t turn this into a mess.”
Her attitude about taking Ivy and leaving the team with Jerome couldn’t have been clearer–or firmer.
Timothy’s face grew heavy, his brows knitting together.
He hadn’t expected Cecelia to be this stubborn.
Once she made up her mind, nothing seemed capable of changing it.
In the end, he could only look toward Hendrick.
Hendrick was equally puzzled as to why Cecelia would go this far for Jerome.
He had always thought Cecelia was a smart woman.
Even if their cooperation had always been mutually beneficial, staying with the team was still the best option for both Cecelia and Ivy.
Yet the more fiercely Cecelia defended Jerome, the more suspicious he became of the man.
Whether Jerome truly was the “bad luck” Jayson claimed him to be was another matter entirely.
But if that were true, would Cecelia really be foolish enough to drag him along and risk implicating her
own sister?
Unless she already had a plan–and strength far beyond what they had imagined.
So…
Hendrick’s eyes narrowed slightly. “I think we can reconsider the matter of whether Jerome needs to leave the team,” he said, turning to Timothy.
Then he looked back at Cecelia, his tone calm. “Merriton is crawling with mutated rats and even a level 4 mutated cat now. Even you said there’s no telling when the situation will end or what it’ll look like afterward. If you’re planning to split up, you’ll still have to pass through the city, won’t you? Why don’t we put this aside for now? We can all think it over again. Once we’ve made it through Merriton together, we
can decide then.”
A delaying tactic?

Cecelia raised a brow. She had known this man wouldn’t make things easy.
Still, it was exactly what she had expected.
Ivy’s healing ability was far too rare. Too important.
There was no way they’d willingly let her go so easily.
Of course, she could leave right now with Ivy, Jerome, and Amber.
But Hendrick had a point.
They would still have to pass through Merriton either way.
Even if the mutated rat swarm eventually receded, the scattered remnants would still be troublesome.
The more people there were, the fewer casualties they’d suffer.
Once they were past Merriton, the immediate danger would be behind them.
After that, she could take Ivy and the others to hole up in some small town and level up for a while.
Cecelia glanced lazily at Hendrick and Timothy. “Working together to get through Merriton is fine,” she said. “After all, you’re planning to take advantage of the situation and collect those mutated rat crystals too, aren’t you? If you miss this chance, getting large quantities of crystals so easily won’t happen again.”
Hendrick raised a brow slightly.
The girl hadn’t agreed outright–she’d said “working together” instead.
Playing word games with him, huh?
She was stubborn as ever. Clearly determined to leave the team.
But leaving wouldn’t be so simple.
After saying her piece, Cecelia didn’t bother with them anymore. She took Ivy by the arm and headed toward where Jerome was.
Watching the sisters walk away, Timothy sighed. “Looks like Cecelia has made up her mind. Ivy listens to her sister. There’s no way we can force her to stay.”
Ryan clenched his teeth. “Then we’ll just take Ivy by force!”
“Ryan, could you try using your brain for once?”
Even the usually silent Regina couldn’t hold back anymore. She shot him a glare. “What’s the point of forcing Ivy to stay? Do you have any idea how much she cares about Cecelia? Who do you think you are to her? Do you really think she’d abandon her own sister for you?”
“Regina, you-”

Ryan was completely speechless.

Regina rolled her eyes. “I’m just telling the truth. If I were Ivy, I’d choose my sister without hesitation too. Ryan, you really think too highly of yourself.”
Ryan’s face turned instantly dark. His fists clenched so tightly his knuckles whitened and his eyes reddened.
“Then I’ll go apologize to her! I’ll apologize for how I treated her before–until she forgives me. I’ll beg her and Ivy to stay!”
With that, he spun around and rushed toward Cecelia.
“Don’t go.”
Hendrick grabbed him and pulled him back.
Ryan froze, looking at him with sudden hope. “Hendrick, this isn’t my fault, right?”
If they lost a healer like Ivy…
Was it really his fault?
Hendrick glanced at him but didn’t answer directly. “Even if you apologize, she won’t change her mind,” he said coolly. “You’d just be wasting your time.”
Cecelia might appear lazy and indifferent most of the time, as if nothing really mattered to her.
But in truth, she was frighteningly rational.
If she had already said it aloud, it meant she had a plan–and a trump card.
“Hendrick…”
Ryan’s expression stiffened. “Then what do we do now?”
“We wait and see.”
Timothy spoke in a deep voice. “Cecelia already said it herself. Until we leave Merriton, we’ll continue cooperating–not discussing whether she stays. That means her decision is final. Forcing lvy to stay is useless. All we can do is prepare for her departure.” He paused. “Once the rat swarm passes, we’ll enter Merriton and gather as many medical supplies as we can.”
