Matthew paused, then looked at Timothy. “Timothy, what about the cooperation Jayson mentioned?”
Timothy frowned. “No deal. I don’t like Jayson and his team. Cecelia had a point. Jayson might’ve been smearing Jerome. It just so happened that every time something went wrong, Jerome was there. That made us think he was some kind of bad luck.”
Thinking about it, he rubbed his temples. How did he suddenly start believing what Jayson’s team said and even suggest kicking Jerome out?
If he hadn’t brought it up, Cecelia probably wouldn’t have insisted on going their separate ways.
Then he thought of something and looked at Hendrick. “What do you think?”
“Yeah. I agree with you. We can travel together, but there’s no need to cooperate with Jayson’s team. Because-”
Before he could finish, a sharp scream suddenly rang out in the distance, cutting him off.
Hendrick frowned in annoyance.
Timothy and the others froze for a second, then looked toward where the scream had come from.
Elsewhere.
‘Cece, are you really set on this?”
Ivy looked at Cecelia dragging her along, helpless.
Cecelia stopped and raised an eyebrow. “What, you can’t let go? Is it Timothy or Hendrick? Don’t tell me you’ve got your eye on that sore loser. If it’s Matthew, though … he’s big and seems honest. I guess he could pass as my future brother–in–law.”
‘Cece, what are you talking about?”
Ivy was both annoyed and helpless. “How did this even turn into that? It’s the apocalypse…”
‘Exactly. It’s the apocalypse. Since we’re not picking boyfriends or husbands to settle down with, why stick with them?”
Cecelia cut her off, her voice turning serious. “Trust me, Ivy. There’s no such thing as eternal friends. People stick together for shared interests at a certain stage. The apocalypse just makes that clearer. The only reason they keep you around is because you have a healing ability.
“But that doesn’t mean you’re irreplaceable. Once we keep moving and they meet another healer with a higher ability level than yours, you’ll lose your value. Do you get it?
“Besides, Ivy, we can build our own team.”
In her past life, wasn’t that exactly how Ivy was treated in Brandon’s team?

Timothy and the others at least had some bottom line. They weren’t as sinister and shameless as Brandon.
But in her eyes, those so–called bottom lines could break at any moment.
The way Timothy and Hendrick treated her was proof enough.
Those two were the same kind of people.
Hendrick showed it more openly. Timothy kept it hidden.
Setting aside their lack of full trust in her, Timothy’s team was actually pretty strong.
After all, he would later become one of the top 10 ability users in the superbase, wielding considerable power.
But she knew one thing clearly. Rather than betting on others, it was better to rely on herself.
She needed a team that truly belonged to her.
A team where she had absolute authority.
At least that way, under her protection, Ivy wouldn’t have to read people’s moods just to survive.
And she wouldn’t repeat the tragedy of her past life.
Ivy froze.
It was the first time she’d heard Cecelia speak to her in such a stern, serious tone.
It showed just how determined she was to leave Timothy’s team.
And she understood that everything Cecelia said, every decision she made, was mostly for her sake.
Thinking that, Ivy’s eyes stung a little. She felt both happy and moved.
Her sister had really grown up.
Now all she thought about was how to protect her.
And just like that, she was completely convinced. She looked at Cecelia and smiled gently. “Alright. We’ll do it your way, Cece. Let’s work hard and build our own team.”
Just as she finished speaking-
Zera’s scream suddenly rang out in the distance.
Ivy froze.
Cecelia looked toward the sound.
Zera’s face was deathly pale. She clutched the bloody wound on her neck and stumbled toward where Jayson was.

“H–help… save me… Jayson…”
Jayson had just stepped out of the house when Zera threw herself into his arms.
He froze, then frowned. “What happened?”
