Chapter 118 The Deal
On a team, you had to wait for Cecelia or the others to hand out crystals before you could level up.
That was painfully slow.
It would be better to use her own ability to earn crystals and level up on her own terms.

That way, she wouldn’t be too much of a burden on Cecelia, either. Amber’s ability needed upgrading too -she’d become a core fighter for the team down the road.
Still, Ivy worried that Cecelia wouldn’t let her keep working with Timothy’s team.
“Cece, actually …”
“Go ahead.”
Ivy was mid–sentence when Cecelia cut her off.
She blinked. “Cece, you’re okay with it?”
“Ivy, your idea makes sense. Trading healing for crystals is a transaction. There’s profit in it, and it doesn’t really hurt you.”
Cecelia smiled, then paused and squeezed Ivy’s hand. “But you need to set boundaries. If he gives you a level 1 crystal, figure out what kind of wound that’s worth healing. Don’t burn through a whole crystal on one person if the injury doesn’t justify it. You’d be selling yourself short.”
Ivy’s eyes lit up. She nodded eagerly. “Cece, I get it. I’ve been thinking about it, too. A wound like Timothy’s–where his arm nearly got severed–that’s worth at least one level 2 crystal!”
“Now you’re talking.”
Her sister was learning fast. Getting sharper by the day.
A wave of relief washed over Cecelia.
She knew Ivy’s personality. A clean break from Timothy and his crew wasn’t in the cards.
Especially since both teams still had to pass through Merriton together anyway.
Ivy was soft–hearted.
If someone on Timothy’s team got hurt–or even just came down with a headache-
She’d rush over and heal them without a second thought.

Rather than let people exploit that softness, it was better to teach her a little self–interest.
Crystals for healing. A fair trade. Totally aboveboard.
Ivy’s conscience would be clear that way.

Finishe
Cecelia had no reason to say no.
And obviously, this whole arrangement had Hendrick’s fingerprints all over it.
When she’d announced she was taking Ivy and leaving, Hendrick hadn’t tried very hard to talk her out of it.
First, because he knew her mind was made up. Arguing was pointless.
Second, because he clearly had a backup plan to keep Ivy’s healing available.
And here it was.
He’d even picked an approach that Cecelia and Ivy could both live with.
That fox was always three moves ahead.
“As long as you’re on board.”
Ivy exhaled, the tension she’d been carrying all afternoon finally lifting.
Then, something else occurred to her. She looked at Cecelia. “Cece, one more thing. When you went out this afternoon, did something good happen? You looked so happy.”
Cecelia glanced at Jerome on the sofa, then at Amber. “Amber, close the door.”
“On it!”
Amber rushed to shut the courtyard gate and the inner door.
Cecelia looked completely serious.
Like she was about to share classified intelligence.
“Cece, why all the mystery?”
Ivy watched her sister, dying to know what was so important.
Cecelia didn’t explain. She reached into her space and pulled out a live hen.
The chicken materialized in her arms, sending Ivy and Amber stumbling back in shock.
Even Jerome looked surprised.
Because earlier, he’d heard Cecelia’s inner thoughts. She’d said her space could only hold zombies.
A live chicken was clearly outside the stated parameters.
His eyes narrowed slightly. He studied her profile, combing through his memories of his previous life. He’d definitely never met her.
And he’d never heard of anyone whose spatial ability could house living creatures.

Cecelia held the hen up and showed it off to the room. “Found her outside today. Put her in my space. Looks like she’ll survive in there!”
Space?
Amber caught the word and stared. “Cecelia, did you awaken a spatial ability?”
