Chapter 119 Hendrick Came Knocking
Antisocial teenager?
Finishe
Jerome, who’d just heard her inner monologue, blinked. Something complicated flickered behind his eyes as he stared at her.
Cecelia turned to him. “I do have a method to awaken abilities after the fact, but it probably won’t work fo you. If you want to try, though, we can take a look once we find some crystals.”
A flash crossed Jerome’s eyes. He was about to decline, but the words changed at the last second. “Okay. Thanks, Cecelia.”
“No need to be so polite, you’re like a brother to me!”
She just loved well–behaved boys. And handsome ones? Even better. Easy on the eyes.
Jerome said nothing.
He thought about her inner voice and, without meaning to, touched his own face.
This face… was it really that easy on the eyes?
“So, Cece, if we find other live animals—ducks, rabbits, piglets—they can all go in your space?”
Ivy wasn’t surprised that Cecelia had shared her secret.
She understood.
They were a team now.
She knew her sister.
Cecelia would only reveal the spatial ability if she trusted Amber and Jerome completely.
“Yep. We’ll never run out of meat.”
Cecelia grinned, then sighed. “It’s everything else we need to stockpile.”
Amber jumped in. “Cecelila, a space that holds live animals is already incredible. Once the apocalypse hit, the only way to get meat was by foraging in the wild. Inside the cities? Forget it. Protein matters more than carbs. Your space is honestly better than those standard supply–storage ones. It’s sustainable. Hens lay eggs, rabbits breed–an Infinite food source!”
“Exactly.”
Ivy looked at Cecelia gently. “Cece, don’t worry too much. Once we reach Merriton, we’ll find vehicles and supplies. Our group is small. Consumption won’t be that bad.”
“Mm.”
Cecelia nodded and looked at all of them. A small smile crossed her face. “From now on, we do this

together. We survive this apocalypse. We fight our way to the day it ends.”
Amber paused. Her nose stung. “Cecelia … will the apocalypse actually end someday?”
“It will.”
Cecelia’s voice was absolute. Every word deliberate. “I promise you. It will.”
Amber laughed through tears. “Okay. Then, we’ll make it to the end together.”
Ivy stood between them, watching Amber cry. She reached over and rubbed her head.
Jerome heard Cecelia’s words. He said nothing.
Finished
Cecelia noticed him lower his head. That’s when she remembered–she still hadn’t started guiding Jerome toward developing the zombie virus antidote.
The conditions weren’t there yet.
A basic lab, at minimum. Equipment.
Even without a lab, she’d need instruments.
This Merriton run needed to be a supply haul–as much as possible.
One SUV wasn’t going to cut it. She needed an RV, a cargo truck, or a bus.
“But, Cece …”
Ivy looked at her, frowning. “Given what happened with the mutated rats and that mutated cat in Merriton, how long do we need to wait before it’s safe to go in?”
Cecelia thought for a moment. “I’ll scout Merriton tomorrow. You guys stay here until I get back.”
“Cecelia, you’re going alone? That’s dangerous!”
“No.”
Cecelia gave a faint smile. “I won’t be alone.”
Timothy’s team wouldn’t just sit around waiting.
They would definitely send someone to check Merriton.
So, she wouldn’t be going solo.
Sure enough.
The next morning, bright and carly, someone knocked on the safe house door.
Cecelia opened it. Hendrick stood there, fox eyes fixed on her. “Want to go check out Merriton together?”

“Just you from your team?”
She didn’t answer. She countered with a question first.
Hendrick nodded. “Just me. That’s plenty. Don’t worry about Ivy and the others–Timothy and the rest are staying here. They’ll keep an eye out.”
In other words, the favor–currying had begun.
Cecelia raised an eyebrow. Free ride? Don’t mind if she did. “Fine. Let’s go.”
They’d worked together before.
Decent enough chemistry for a two–person op.
But just as they were about to get in the car, Jayson came jogging over. “You two heading to Merriton? We were about to go, too. Why not tag along?”
The truth was, Jayson had people watching Timothy’s team around the clock.
That’s how he’d caught Hendrick and Cecelia getting into a car so fast.
in on the fact that Timothy’s team had more firepower than his.
e could ride their coattails.
ng this recon run.
celia looked at him, lips curling. “Not that long ago, you nearly shoved my brother Jerome into a ombie horde. And now you want to tag along? Aren’t you worried I’ll take the opportunity to settle the core?”
ayson’s smile went stiff. “I’m sure you aren’t the petty type, Ms. York.”
You’d be wrong. I am.”
ayson went silent.
So, here’s a free tip. Don’t follow us.”
Cecelia finished, pulled the passenger door open, and got in.
Iendrick gave Jayson a passing glance. “I don’t enjoy dead weight, either. If you want to go, take your own eople.”
