With Timothy and his crew as a shield, they wouldn’t have to risk their lives even if they ran into more mutated rats.
At the very least, riding Timothy’s coattails bought time to collect crystals.
Jayson’s excitement was contagious. He waved everyone into their vehicle to follow.
In the car, Cillian was staring at Jerome’s vehicle ahead. “Jayson, if mutated rats have these crystals, then that mutated zombie we ran into before must have had one, too. Think there’s

Ryan, having been corked all morning, was now a geyser. Words poured out nonstop.
For the entire drive. Without pause.
Matthew had a sudden, horrible realization.
The vow–of–silence idea might have been a mistake.

Without warning, the car braked hard.
Cecelia’s brow creased. Something was wrong. She rolled down her window and leaned out to look ahead.
Timothy’s car was leading. It had stopped abruptly.
Regina’s face was white. She stuck her head out and screamed at them. “Cecelia, tell Hendrick and Matthew to reverse! Something huge is coming this way! Something dangerous!”
The second she finished, the ground began to shake.
