I was about to answer when the door opened from the inside.

An old man, around 60 years old, stood there. He looked calm when he saw us, and said politely. “Please come in. Elder Krom has been waiting for you.”
“Elder Krom?!” I was shocked.
If it was her, it made sense. Chances are, her wolf picked up our scents the second Gary and I got close to the valley.
We followed him into the courtyard. A special scent filled the whole yard and made me feel relaxed for
some reason.
An old lady sat in the middle of the courtyard, grinding coffee beans. Her movements were smooth and casual.
“What brings you two here today?” she asked.
Looking at her, I spoke up respectfully right away. “Elder Krom, I’ve heard a lot about you.”
The aura coming off her–even my wolf Zeus felt respectful. I knew right then, this old lady was the legendary Enid Krom, the leader of the Krom family–the oldest and most noble family in our entire clan!
They said her medical skills could bring the dead back to life, and she was just as good at running a pack.
But she’d disappeared decades ago. Never thought she’d been hiding out here.
I stared at her, and she stared right back, sizing me up.
After a minute, she smiled and patted my shoulder. “You’re from the Thorne family of Thunder Pack, right? You look a little like your grandpa.”
I nodded. “I’m Kael Thorne, the eldest grandson of the Thorne family.”
“You’re Kael Thorne?!” For some reason, she reacted so strongly when she heard my name.
I nodded, a little confused.
She didn’t say anything else and just pointed to the chair across from her. “Sit down.”
I walked over casually and sat down opposite her.
She handed me a cup of coffee and asked casually, “How’s Randy doing?”
I took the cup, took a small sip, set it down, and smiled. “He’s doing well. He’s old, but he’s still in good shape.”
“Good to hear. Us old folks are getting on in years–this world’s yours now, the young ones.” Enid sighed. Looking at her, I sighed a little too. “No one expected you to be living in seclusion here all these years.”
She smiled softly. “If I’m in seclusion, it’s because I don’t wanna deal with all that chaos anymore. I just wanna live in peace.”

Back in the day, her husband died suddenly, and then she disappeared–totally out of the blue. It was still a
mystery to everyone.
I didn’t ask more and got straight to the point. “Elder Krom, I’m here to find Lira. Do you know where she is now?”
