Villainess Ascendant: Apocalypse Edition
Chapter 17 Proof on the Road
Ivy didn’t use her healing ability on Cecilia.
Regina drove fast.

After they’d gone more than six miles, her brows finally relaxed a little. She glanced at Cecilia several times through the rearview mirror.
Timothy asked her, “Want to switch?”
He meant switching drivers.
Regina pressed her lips together and shook her head. “I’ll keep driving. Let’s swap after another 20 miles.”
That made Timothy catch on to something. “Is there a zombie chasing us?”
Regina nodded, her tone serious. “It feels the same as that red–eyed zombie earlier. Within about a mile behind us, there are at least three.”
Three?
Timothy’s face changed instantly.
Cecilia’s earlier words flashed through his mind.
That red–eyed zombie’s roar had been calling its companions.
He looked at Cecilia again.
Hendrick was thinking the same thing.
His gaze settled on Cecilia once more, his expression dark.
“Cece, your judgment earlier was right.”
Ivy looked at Cecilia, brows drawn tight with worry. “I didn’t expect zombies to really be able to call their own kind…”
Cecilia ignored the looks Timothy and Hendrick were giving her and teased Ivy instead. “Animal instincts. Didn’t you make me watch nature documentaries all the time?”
“That was because back then you kept saying you weren’t interested in biology and kept failing your exams. I had no choice,” Ivy said helplessly.
Cecilia grinned at her. “Well, your method worked. I’ve got the survival rules of the animal world down cold now.”
That comment made Timothy and Hendrick fall silent.
The rules of the animal world.

Survival of the fittest.
Wasn’t that exactly how the apocalypse worked?
They couldn’t tell whether Cecilia had meant it or not.

Hendrick narrowed his eyes, studying her with new intensity.
Timothy glanced at Cecilia, deep in thought.
Regina listened to the sisters‘ exchange, doubt creeping in.
She didn’t fully believe Cecilia’s explanation.
One coincidence could happen.
A second time could still be luck.
But what about the third?
Cecilia had never killed a zombie before.
Yet earlier, she hadn’t hesitated at all.
She’d gone straight for the zombie’s head.
That wasn’t how a beginner handled a gun.
Had Cecilia been pretending this whole past month, acting like a useless freeloader and dragging everyone down on purpose?
But why would she do that?
Regina couldn’t figure it out. She glanced at Timothy, who was also lost in thought.
Clearly, Timothy couldn’t make sense of it either.
Only Ivy believed Cecilia every time she explained herself.
Because Ivy could feel that Cecilia’s changes were for the better.
Cecilia leaned back lazily with her eyes closed.
She didn’t really care what Timothy and the others thought of her right now.
None of them were stupid.
What she’d done today was enough to show that she was trying to change.
As long as she stopped causing trouble and dragging the team down, they wouldn’t think about kicking her out and keeping only Ivy.
And she had no intention of leaving Timothy’s team anyway.

She could survive alone.
Ivy couldn’t.
In this apocalypse, lone wolves had an incredibly hard time staying alive.
And Ivy’s ability was meant for a team.
A few hours later, they returned to the safe house.
Because they’d driven ahead, Ryan and Matthew didn’t know what had happened before Hendrick got back in the car.
But once they got out, Matthew could clearly tell that something was off with Timothy and Hendrick.
More precisely, the way their gazes kept drifting toward Cecilia was hard to ignore.
He rubbed his chin, confused.
Did Cecilia stir up trouble again?
“Whew. Thank god that red–eyed zombie didn’t catch up!”
The moment they entered the villa, Ryan dropped onto the couch and patted his chest in relief.
Regina glanced at him. “That red–eyed zombie is dead.”
Huh?
Matthew instinctively looked at her. “Dead?”
