Chapter 16 One Shot
“You-!”
Ryan was furious and lunged toward Cecilia.
“That’s enough!”
Timothy grabbed Ryan, his gaze dark, and said to Hendrick, “We’re leaving. Now.”
He chose to trust Cecilia this time.
Not just because of the zombie–level information she’d just given.
But also because his own ability couldn’t hold out much longer.
Instead of dragging this out just to kill a red–eyed zombie.
It was better to retreat first.
They already had the supplies they needed.
Whether they killed this level two zombie or not could wait.
Hendrick glanced at Cecilia.

After a brief silence, he nodded and quickly adjusted strategy with Timothy, taking on the role of drawing the red–eyed zombie away.
Timothy grabbed Cecilia and Ryan, called out to Matthew, and led them out of the supermarket first.
The truck doors slammed shut.
Matthew and Ryan drove off ahead.
Bang, bang.
They knocked several regular zombies flying that were wandering toward them.
Timothy brought Cecilia back to the SUV.
He spun the car around and waited at the supermarket entrance for Hendrick.
Regina was tense, eyes locked on the supermarket, brows tightly knit. “Timothy, Hendrick’s slowing down. That red–eyed zombie… it’s catching up.”
Which meant Hendrick alone couldn’t keep it contained.
Timothy frowned and said to Regina, “Get ready to drive.”
“Okay!”

Regina responded immediately.
Timothy opened the door and ran back toward the supermarket.
Ivy clutched Cecilia’s hand, nerves written all over her face.
Cecilia frowned, eyes fixed on the supermarket entrance.
Two minutes later, Timothy and Hendrick emerged.
But it wasn’t good.
Blood stained the corner of Hendrick’s mouth. He was clearly injured and moving even slower than Timothy.
Timothy jumped into the passenger seat.
But Hendrick was suddenly grabbed by the shoulder by the level two zombie.
“Hendrick!”
Bang!
A gunshot exploded next to them.
Then-
Thud.
Something by hit the ground.
htened as the pressure on his shoulder vanished.
plattered against the back of his head.
o look.
e zombie that had been holding him now had only half a smashed skull left as it collapsed to the ground.
“Move!”
A clear female voice rang out ahead.
Hendrick sucked in a breath and jumped into the car.
The door slammed shut.
The SUV shot forward.
The level two zombie they’d been fighting for so long lay motionless on the ground.
Dead. Completely.

Not just Hendrick.
Even Timothy was stunned as he turned to look at Cecilia in the back seat, who had just lowered the submachine gun.
She met his scrutinizing gaze and grinned. “Pretty good aim, right?”
Timothy, who hadn’t landed a single shot earlier, felt silent.
Hendrick, who’d nearly had his head blown open and whose ears were still ringing.
Regina fell silent while flooring the gas pedal as they sped away.
All three were shaken to the core.
Ivy was stunned too.
She hadn’t even seen Cecilia raise the gun.
It was that fast.
Then the gunshot went off right in front of her.
The sound was so loud her head was still buzzing.
But…
She looked at Cecilia, her emotions tangled with relief and disbelief.
Hendrick frowned and casually wiped the zombie brain matter off the back of his head with a tissue, saying nothing.
Yesterday, he’d agreed to let Cecilia come along because he wanted to see what kind of trouble she’d stir up next, then find a chance to kill her.
He never imagined that the person he wanted dead would end up saving his life first.
Hendrick lifted his eyes to Cecilia, his expression complicated.
Timothy asked him, “You okay?”
Hendrick shook his head. “I’m fine. Just exhausted from overusing my ability.”
“Alright.”
Timothy then turned to Cecilia, his own expression just as conflicted. “You know how to use a gun?”
The moment he asked, Hendrick’s probing gaze landed on Cecilia again.
Ivy was confused too.
Even Regina, driving, couldn’t help glancing at Cecilia in the rearview mirror.

They were all waiting for her answer.
Cecilia replied casually, “I remembered it from short videos I watched before. That was my first time actually using one. Looks like I didn’t mess it up.”
Hendrick’s face went completely dark.
He’d just taken a walk through the gates of hell.
One slip, and he’d have died either to the zombie or to Cecilia’s shaky hands.
Ivy frowned and looked at Cecilia, clearly disapproving. “Cece, that was too dangerous.”
Cecilia hummed in response and pleaded lightly, “No next time. I promise.”
Ivy didn’t know what to say anymore.
Cecilia’s changes today were honestly a bit overwhelming.
Thinking that, she looked at Hendrick apologetically. “Sorry, Hendrick. Cece was reckless. Let me treat you.”
Hendrick nodded grimly. “Thanks.”
Ivy shook her head, placed her hand over the back of his hand, and released her ability.
A faint white glow flowed from her palm into Hendrick’s body.
Cecilia saw it clearly.
Ivy’s healing ability could ease the fatigue caused by overusing abilities.
Judging by the look on Hendrick’s face.
His tense expression gradually relaxed.
As for Timothy, his condition was a bit better than Hendrick’s.
