"I'm sorry, Ryan. What happened today was my fault. I apologize.”
Ryan was stunned.
Had she taken the wrong medicine?
That look she gave me earlier was full of sarcasm.
How much did Ryan hate Cecelia?
He had never met a woman as useless and spoiled as her.
The apocalypse had been going on for over a month, yet she still acted as if nothing had happened.
Everyone else went out together to gather supplies and worked hard to improve their fighting skills.
She insisted on staying behind at the temporary shelter, being nothing but a lazy freeloader.
Her personality and attitude were worlds apart compared to her sister, Ivy.
Ivy wasn't strong either, but she had made good use of her healing ability. She went out every day with the team to fight zombies and search for supplies.
Every time, she'd come back to the temporary shelter utterly exhausted, yet she'd still make the effort to treat each and every one of them.
Ryan had always admired her mindset and attitude.
But Ivy had a useless little sister and doted on her a bit too much.
After working hard all day and finally getting some supplies from the leader, she would turn around and give them straight to Cecelia.
After seeing this happen several times, Ryan finally lost it.
He walked right up to Cecelia and mocked her. "I've never seen someone as useless as you. It's the apocalypse, and you still rely on your sister to feed you. Are your arms and legs broken? Can't you go find supplies yourself?”
To his surprise, Cecelia shamelessly shot back, "It's none of your damn business. My sister is willing to take care of me. Who are you to interfere?”
After that, she went even further and took all of Ivy's food.
Ivy only looked at her with helpless affection and said to Ryan, "Sorry, Ryan. Cece wasn't like this before. She just hasn't been able to accept the apocalypse yet—”
Ryan had rolled his eyes on the spot.
What the hell?
Is she the only one struggling with this?
Didn't we all have to deal with the same reality?
Otherwise, how could anyone survive in a world full of zombies?
From that day on, he disliked Cecelia even more and mocked her whenever he saw her.
Of course, Cecelia disliked him too.
Sometimes her sinister gaze would make his skin crawl.
And this time, she had finally made a move against him.
Just thinking about the zombie that had lunged at him earlier, nearly tearing his throat out, made Ryan hate her even more.
Standing at the doorway, he stared at the woman apologizing to him and sneered.
"If apologies worked, why don't you try escaping from a zombie's mouth yourself? Stop putting on this disgusting act in front of me, Cecelia. I'm not buying it. I've made myself clear. If it weren't for Ivy's sake, it would be either me or you on this team.”
He completely refused to accept her apology.
Ivy frowned. "Ryan—”
"Ivy, I mean this seriously. Cecelia is the biggest burden on this team. If she loves freeloading so much, just leave her here. You can come with us to the next stop.”
Having said that, Ryan shot Cecelia a look full of disdain and went downstairs.
Ivy watched his retreating figure with a frown. She was at a loss.
Then, she turned to Cecelia.
Cecelia looked at her and said softly, "I really meant that apology, Ivy.” Even though she hadn't wanted to do those things and had been controlled, she had still almost gotten Ryan killed. She had to apologize.
Ivy looked at her in surprise.
She hadn't expected Cecelia to take the initiative to apologize.
She felt that today's Cecelia was indeed a little different from before.
It felt just like the old Cecelia.
Ivy pressed her lips together and held Cecelia's hand, speaking softly and calmly. "Cece, Ryan has a sharp tongue but a soft heart. Since you apologized, he must have heard you. But your behavior lately really hasn't been good. It's like you became a completely different person. Still, I know it's because the apocalypse started and you haven't adjusted mentally yet.”
"Mhm...”
Cecelia nodded, looking at Ivy, who was always so tolerant and loving toward her.
She opened her mouth, wanting to tell her about being reborn.
But strangely, the words seemed to get stuck in her throat.
Not a single word could come out.
Cecelia's expression changed, and she instinctively touched her neck.
