Cecelia froze for a moment.
The thin streams felt cool as they seeped into her body.
There was no discomfort at all.
Instead, she felt as if something were nourishing her from within, making her body lighter and more relaxed.
"What is this? Healing ability? Or springwater ability?”
She couldn't tell.
When she reached into the cobalt fluid again, it stayed still.
This time, it didn't form streams or seep into her.
Cecelia pressed her lips together, feeling confused.
And also—
She looked up at the vast, endless white space. "H-how do I get out?”
The question had barely formed when everything went black.
The next second, Cecelia found herself back at the doorway of the room.
She hadn't moved at all, still standing in the same spot as before.
"Cece, it's time for dinner."
Outside the door, Ivy walked toward her, holding a plate about the size of a palm.
Cecelia came back to her senses and decided she would study that strange space and the cobalt fluid later.
"Regina cooked today, Cece. The food's fresher than usual. If there's anything you don't like, just leave it—I'll finish it later.”
Ivy handed her the food.
Cecelia looked down to see meat and vegetables.
Before the apocalypse, it would have been just an ordinary home-cooked meal.
But after more than a month in the apocalypse, meals like this were rare for the team.
A portion like this was reserved only for Ivy, thanks to her healing ability.
She spent so much energy every day healing everyone's wounds.
In short, Ivy was the most important person in the group.
Otherwise, Timothy wouldn't have let a freeloader like Cecelia stay and make things harder for Ivy.
Ivy had once told Timothy, "I'm taking my sister with me. If Cece doesn't stay, neither do I.”
Cecelia's nose stung as she looked at the food.
No matter how difficult she had been, Ivy had never once thought about giving her up.
She always saved the best things for her, right up until her death.
"Cece?”
Seeing her standing there in a daze, Ivy gently pushed the spoon into her hand. "Hurry and eat.”
"What about you, Ivy?” Cecelia looked up at her. "If I eat your food, what will you eat?”
Ivy paused, then smiled softly. "I have a small appetite. After you are full, I will eat a few bites of what is left.”
"No.” Cecelia's tone turned firm, and she grabbed Ivy's hand. "Go get a plate. We'll share this."
"Cece—”
Ivy let Cecelia pull her downstairs, her mind wandering.
Had Cece really changed?
...
Their temporary shelter was a villa.
After pulling Ivy downstairs, Cecelia went straight to the kitchen.
All the team members happened to be there.
Ryan was about to greet Ivy, but when he saw Cecelia with her, his smile disappeared, and his face darkened again.
Especially when he saw the food in Cecelia's hands, his temper flared.
He sneered, "I really don't understand how someone who slept at home all day can shamelessly take someone else's food. You've got skin as thick as a brick wall."
Cecelia ignored him.
She took a plate and a spoon from the kitchen.
Then she scooped all the meat and most of the vegetables into Ivy's plate.
Under everyone's shocked stares, she met Ryan's eyes and shot back, "Ivy and I like sharing one plate. She enjoys taking care of me. What, are you jealous? If you are, go find yourself a sister. But even if you do, she won't be your real sister, so she'll never treat you the way Ivy treats me. Go ahead and stay jealous!”
Everyone was stunned upon hearing that.
Ryan was at a loss for words.
So, she had learned to be smarter, huh?
What's she planning now?
Ivy nodded.
This time, she could feel that her little sister might really be returning to her old self.
"Yeah, right—sure sounds convincing!”
Ryan scoffed and mocked Cecelia. "How many times have you said that before? When did you ever change?”
Cecelia glanced at him calmly. "It doesn't matter whether you believe me or not. As long as my sister does, that's all that counts.”
"You—"
Ryan felt defeated once again.
Today, dealing with Cecelia felt even more frustrating than usual.
It was like punching a pillow. She didn't feel a thing!
Just like before, she was still doing whatever she wanted.
It was infuriating!
Because of her presence, the others did not have much of an appetite either.
Timothy put down his spoon and looked at everyone except Cecelia. "Get a good rest tonight. We're heading to Southridge tomorrow. There's a big supermarket there with plenty of supplies. We should be able to bring back a lot in just one trip.”
Southridge?
The place was familiar to Cecelia.
Something suddenly clicked in her mind, and she looked at Timothy.
Timothy was handsome, with well-defined features that made him look tough and righteous.
He had been Ivy's senior in school and had served two years in the military.
He had strong values and clear principles.
He awakened his ice ability at the start of the apocalypse, yet he didn't seem like a cold person at all.
He was the leader of their team.
Sitting beside him was Hendrick, with a strikingly androgynous look. There was always a hint of gloom and calculation in his eyes, making him the most cunning and scheming person in the team.
In their previous life, he had died on this very trip to Southridge for supplies, and Timothy had lost an arm.
As for Ryan, the hot-tempered fire ability user who couldn't stand her, he had also died on this trip.
His death was even more gruesome than Hendrick's.
