“Out of a five–person team, only three can actually fight?
Mike glanced at him. “Then you got lucky.”

Humbert chuckled. “Yeah. If you’d run into someone more hot–tempered, Richard, you wouldn’t have made it back.”
“Hey! Cut the sarcasm, Humbert. With your face, you should’ve been the one to scout them. But no, you had to send me…”
“Young people can take a beating. How else were we supposed to figure out what they’re capable of?”
Silence fell.
Richard let out a cold snort and looked at Mike again. “That military SUV downstairs belongs to them too.”
“Where’s that kid Draven?” Mike asked.
“He ran off as soon as I kicked the door open. Fast little bastard. Next time I see him, I’ll make him wish he were dead!”
Richard gritted his teeth, his eyes filled with malice.
Jocelyn scoffed. “That kid’s got fast legs. Wind ability users are slippery. Killing him would be easy, but we still need him for now. But…”
She suddenly thought of something and turned to Mike. “Lately, several military SUVs have shown up in the Western District. On our way back, didn’t we run into that young guy with the last name Madron? He said he wanted to go to the Eastern District to look for something and was hiring a guide. Should we try it? If he’s connected to the military, the payoff should be pretty good. And about the crystals, the military hasn’t made it public yet. We need to get ahead of them and collect as many as we can.”
Humbert stroked his white beard and narrowed his eyes clearly calculating. “Do you think those newcomers also know about the crystals? Otherwise, there’s no way their levels would be higher than ours.”
“The military hasn’t released much information about crystals. All we know is they’re found in mutated zombies‘ brains and can be used to improve abilities. But we have no idea how to actually use them.”
After saying that, Jocelyn kicked a backpack. A pile of crystals covered in black blood spilled out, giving off a foul stench.
“This stuff… we’re not supposed to eat it, right?”
Fighting back nausea, Richard walked over and picked one up. “What if we try it?”
“You try it.”
Humbert raised his hand, and a stream of water washed over the crystals on the floor.
Before long, the black blood was rinsed away, revealing their original colors.
There were red ones, dark red ones, and nearly black–red ones. Counting carefully, there were thirty or forty in total.

They had collected all of them earlier that day after overhearing information about crystals from the military, rushing to the locations where mutated zombie bodies were.
It seemed like the military had only just learned about it as well.
The information hadn’t spread yet.
Once it did, it would clearly cause a huge stir.
“Ugh…”
Richard gagged. “That smell is awful… how are you supposed to eat this… ah!”
Jocelyn shoved one straight into his mouth.
The hard crystal instantly chipped off half of his front tooth. The pain made his eyes water.
“Jocelyn, are you trying to kill me? This thing is rock hard. How is anyone supposed to eat it? I’m not doing this!”
Richard immediately threw the crystal away and backed off.
Humbert stepped forward, picked up a crystal, and held it in his hand. Suddenly, his eyes lit up, and he looked at the others with excitement. “I know how to use it now.”
“Huh?”
Mike, Jocelyn, and Richard all turned to look at him.
Western District of Sanctum, military outpost.
Morton got out of the car just as a young man approached with a smile.
“Morton!”
“Alban.”
Morton greeted Alban Baldwin. “What’s up? Have you seen Mark and the others?”
“Yeah. We’ve already arranged accommodations for them. But Morton, our boss wants to talk to you in detail about Mr. Madron and Ms. Lowe.”
Alban’s dark face turned serious. “Come with me first.”
“Alright.”
Morton responded, then turned to Cade behind him. “You guys go find Mark and the others. Check how things are going.”
Cade made an OK gesture, telling him not to worry.
Ten minutes later, Morton followed Alban into the most important conference room inside the military
outpost.
