Morton paused, then looked over and saw Cade waving his arms and shouting, “Captain Carter, we’re here!”

The corner of his mouth twitched as he muttered under his breath, “What are these idiots trying to do?” Wesley looked at him with a half–smile. “Morton, good luck. Looks like you’re stuck babysitting for life.”

“Get lost!”

Morton cursed with a laugh and kicked at the back of Wesley’s knee without holding back.

Wesley dodged easily and walked away without looking back.

Cade, Mark, Glen, and Sean came over with Rex and Sabrina.

Morton stood still, forcing a smile that didn’t reach his eyes as he looked at Rex. “Mr. Madron, why aren’t you resting in the safe house?”

Then he looked at Sabrina. “Ms. Lowe, we’ve already arranged for people to search for your parents in the Western District. If nothing goes wrong, they’ll be found soon. You and Mr. Madron can wait safely in the

safe house.”

“Waiting is boring. Your people said those crystals can level you up. Sabrina is a wood ability user, so we’re going to collect some zombie crystals for her to level up Just keep track of what we owe you. I’ll have my dad pay you back later!”

Morton gave a brief acknowledgment, then looked at Rex and said coldly, “Mr. Madron, information about zombie crystals is classified by the military. It’s fine to talk about it inside the base, but I hope you won’t spread it outside.”

Rex looked annoyed. “Do I look stupid? Something this important is obviously classified. If people outside find out, they’ll come fighting for a share. No matter what kind of crystal it is, it should be prioritized for military ability users. Sabrina will be my wife in the future, which makes her part of the military too. So it’s only fair that the crystals you collect go to her!”

“Captain Carter is right.”

Sabrina looked at Morton, her gaze soft and understanding. “Your mission isn’t to collect crystals for me. But Captain Carter, could you help? I can trade other things for crystals. Or you can take me inside. I can go in on my own as well…”
