Chapter 233 A House of Cards
Draven was pointing off somewhere, eyes gleaming, practically vibrating with the urge to go scavenging.
He might as well have had “Loot Goblin” tattooed on his forehead.
Cecelia couldn’t be bothered. She glanced where he was pointing, unimpressed, and changed the subject. “Have you ever been to the Kaczer Group headquarters
“Oh, sure.”
Draven grinned. “I delivered food there back in the day. One of the biggest corporations in Sanctum City.”
“So, you know your way around?”
“Kind of. The complex is massive, though–there are a lot of restricted areas no outsider could get into.”
“Mm.”
Cecelia nodded. “That saves us some trouble.”
“Huh?”

Draven’s good mood evaporated. “Boss, please tell me you’re not thinking of going to the Kaezer Group. That place is a death sentence right now!”
“Just gathering intel,”
“Oh, okay. As long as we’re not actually going. Seriously that place is crawling with zombies. You’d need the entire Western District military to crack it open…”
Draven trailed off, muttering to himself as he kept pace
Cecelia didn’t respond.
They cleared the Eastern District quickly, shedding their filthy outer layers as they went.
Meanwhile.
Sabrina was huddled in Rex’s arms, still shaking.
Cade and the others stood nearby, catching their breath absorbing crystal energy to replenish.
Morton surveyed the zombie heads littering the ground along with the Level 4 carcass he’d just dragged back, and frowned at Cade. “You’re a Level 4 lightning user.”
“I know!”
Cade grimaced. “They were tougher than anything we’ve faced before. Captain Carter, if you hadn’t come back when you did.. Those Level as were insane. And right when I was about to fish one off, my hand just stopped working. Like it had a mind of its own
This hand was sull trembling.

Nearby, Glen’s face was smeared with soot. The old guy beside him was propping him up. “Cade’s lightning went haywire. Hit Glen instead of the zombie.”
“Glen, I’m so sorry!”
Cade looked ready to grovel.
Glen had barely survived. He waved Cade off. “Just… stay away from me for a while. Let me recover.”
Morton took stock of the situation, then looked at Rex and Sabrina. “Mr. Madron. Ms. Lowe. I trust we can head back now?”
Rex snapped. “If you hadn’t run off chasing that Level 4 and left us, none of this would’ve happened! This is your fault! I got hurt, and Sabrina was traumatized–all because of your negligence!”
Cade and the others‘ faces went dark instantly.
Sabrina stiffened, alarm bells going off. She grabbed Rex’s arm and poured honey into her voice. “Rex, this isn’t Captain Carter’s fault. We’re the ones who-”
Rex was already too furious to listen. “Don’t defend him. We got hurt because of him!”
“Hey, that’s way out of line, Mr. Madron!”
Cade’s mouth twisted. “You’re the ones who insisted on tagging along into the Eastern District. And didn’t we agree at the start that you’d be responsible for your own safety? Why are you blaming our captain?”
“And what if I did insist? So what?”
Rex’s sneer was razor–edged. “If I actually die here, every single one of you will
pay with your lives!”
“You-!”
Cade’s ability crackled in his palms, ready to fry the little brat.
Morton caught his arm. He glanced at Rex, then spoke in a voice that could freeze steam. “Mr. Madron, you don’t have to keep playing the ‘my father will hear about this card. This is the apocalypse. I can walk away from your father’s command anytime I want. So, even if you die here, it doesn’t affect me in the slightest. In fact, it might actually give me an opportunity.”
“What?!”
Rex stared at him in shock. “You’ve been planning to betray my father?”
Morton raised an eyebrow, spread his hands, and grinned–wide, careless, and dangerous. “That’s up to Mr. Madron’s interpretation.”
Rex stared at him, mouth agape..
Every drop of fury drained from Rex’s face, replaced by something much closer to fear.
The bluster died as quickly as it had flared. He didn’t dare push it further.
Sabrina was panicking internally.
This idiot was going to get them both killed!
