Chapter 232 A Debt of Fate
Something was clearly wrong.
He was a psychic ability user–a future architect of the superbase.

He probably wouldn’t actually die here, not according to the old timeline. But Cecelia’s thinking was simple: if she saved him now, she might get VIP treatment at the superbase later.
So, she’d turned back and cleared out the swarm.
What she hadn’t expected was the state he was in–far worse than she’d imagined.
His psychic energy was completely depleted. Even his inses were fading.
In the worst case, his crystal would rupture and kill him.
Damn.
Based on the original timeline, Blake survived this. But he looked genuinely terrifying right now.
Without hesitation, Cecelia pressed a Level 3 crystal into his hand. “Absorb this first. You’ve burned through too much energy.”
Blake didn’t respond. His mismatched eyes–one black, one bleaching white–studied her for a long
gaze moment before he blinked slowly and looked away, letting the storm of emotions behind his of sight.

Was it an illusion?
The mysterious force was gone.
It had vanished the instant she touched him.
A coincidence?
Blake wasn’t sure.”
Maybe Sabrina had already been rescued by then, and the force no longer had a reason to keep pushing
him.
But regardless of the reason, Cecelia had shown up at the exact right moment,
His feelings were… complicated.
He knew Cecelia had probably saved him because of who he was—what he could offer. But…
She’d still saved him.
One more second, and he would have been taken over.
“Thank you.”
He felt the trickle of energy returning.
He meant it.

Cecelia watched the color slowly return to his eyes and let out a quiet sigh of relief. She smiled lightly. “Don’t mention it. Apocalypse rule number one: help each other out. Besides, looks like we keep bumping into each other. Must be fate.”
Blake stared at her.
He paused, vaguely guessing what she was trying to say. He echoed quietly, “Fate? I suppose so.”
“You’re on your own, right?”
Cecelia grinned and asked directly.
Blake met her gaze–those crystalline eyes with their barely hidden shrewdness and their completely unhidden sincerity.
Against every rational instinct-
He nodded. “Mm.”
“Well, I’ve run into you twice today, and both times you were in serious danger. If you’re a solo act, you might want to consider finding a team. Strength in numbers and all that.”
Blake didn’t respond.
“Just a suggestion, obviously. Take it or leave it.”
Cecelia deliberately didn’t say, Why don’t you just join us? We’re clearly destined for each other.
That would come off way too thirsty. And if it spooked a psychic ability user of this caliber? Bad idea.
Given how he’d reacted during their first encounter today, Blake didn’t seem like a lunatic–but he wasn’t someone to take lightly, either.
So, she played it cautiously. No direct invitation.
Everything she’d done today was simply banking goodwill–laying the groundwork for the future.
If she could at least walk away as a “friend,” that alone was a massive win.
“Good advice. I’ll think about it.”
Blake said it, then looked at her directly. “Thank you.”
“Anytime.”
Cecelia smiled and stepped back.
Blake climbed out of the car. He faced her, voice low and steady. “I owe you one. Next time we meet, nature your price. If it’s within my power, I’ll make it happen.”
And then–without waiting for a reply–he took off in the opposite direction, fast and decisive.
He was gone just like that.
Draven’s jaw was on the floor. “That’s how a big shot moves, huh?”

Cecelia shrugged. “Some people prefer flying solo. Nothing wrong with that.”

Take Morton, for example.
He was impressively strong, leveled entirely on his own. But the military’s zombie–killing method was brutally simple: artillery barrage, move on.
And if she remembered correctly, Morton’s current commanding officer was the father of Sabrina’s little simp, Rex.
Whatever.
Cecelia shook her head. Irrelevant people didn’t deserve brain space.
“Let’s head back.”
