“Ladies–I mean, my esteemed teammates, my seniors–I’m the new guy. Thanks to Cecelia for giving me a shot at joining this incredible family. I promise to bring my A–game. My Level 2 wind ability means I’m fast on my feet and great in the air. I’m a solid intel gatherer a designated driver who doesn’t drink, and a top- tier scavenger. Plus, in a fight, I can carry wounded teammates to safety at top speed!”
Draven immediately stepped forward, puffed out his chest, and launched into a very earnest self- introduction.
Amber just stared at him. “I’m 16. Cecelia is 19. You look like you’re pushing 30.”
“Age is just a number! Everyone here is stronger and more skilled than I am, so you’re all my seniors. Even if you were three years old, I’d call you ma’am!”
Everyone stared at him.
Amber was speechless. Ma’am? Why did that sound so… weird?
“No, no, no–just call me by my
name.”
She waved her hands. Now, she understood how Draven had survived this long in the apocalypse.
He was a fast–talker who could sweet–talk the devil himself.
Knock, knock-
Someone rapped on the door.
Cecelia turned and found Hendrick leaning against the doorframe, arms crossed.
She walked over. “What’s up?”
Hendrick said, “Your little brother is missing.”
“I know.”
“So–do we search for him first? Or do you have other plans? Like hunting Level 5 crystals in the Eastern District?”
That was actually a good question.
Cecelia considered it, then said, “I went to the Eastern District today. There’s a complex called the Kaezer Group that’s crawling with zombies. There might already be a Level 5 inside, but getting close won’t be easy. Plenty of Level 4s guarding the perimeter. We’ll need a real plan to break through.”
“Need help?”
“Yes.”
“A joint operation?”
“Works for me.
Cecelia’s brow creased. “But it’s genuinely dangerous in there–nothing like what we’ve faced so far I want everyone at Level 4 before we go in.

“That means hunting Level 4 mutated zombies first. The last level 4 crystal we brought back was used on me first. Right now, I’m the only level 4 ability user in our team. We still need four level 4 crystals, and your
team…”
Hendrick glanced past her into the room. He’d caught most of Draven’s self–introduction and muttered dryly, “You picked up a Level 2. At least he’s more useful than someone with no level at all.”
Cecelia didn’t know what to say for a moment.
Her mouth twitched. “He’s a wind–type. He’s fast.”
Hendrick clicked his tongue, amused. “Let’s hope he’s faster than me.”
“He will be.”
She wasn’t going to entertain this man’s ego. “I’m going back to the Eastern District tomorrow. I need as many Level 4 kills as possible. How many of your people are coming? Decide tonight–6 a.m. tomorrow, we meet downstairs.”
“Alright, it’s settled.”
Hendrick pushed off the doorframe and left without lingering.
Cecelia closed the door. She tossed Draven a Level 3 crystal and told Amber, “Teach him how to level up.”
“Got it, Cecelia.”
Amber wasn’t thrilled about Draven’s silver tongue, but since the Boss had tentatively approved him, she’d deal with it. She walked him through the crystal absorption process with as much patience as she could
muster.
Upstairs. Room 404.
Hendrick relayed Cecelia’s reaction to Jerome’s disappearance to Timothy and the others, then pitched the joint operation.
Timothy was surprised. “Cecelia isn’t worried about Jerome? Does he have some kind of self–defense ability we missed?”
Hendrick recalled the armed guards Jerome had knocked unconscious. He smirked. “Who knows what secrets that guy’s hiding?”
The remark had a faintly sarcastic edge.
Timothy suspected Hendrick had seen something out there–something about Jerome–but wasn’t ready to
share.
Either way, Jerome wasn’t Timothy’s top priority.
What mattered was the joint operation to hunt mutated zombies.

Night fell
Blake returned from the Eastern District.
As he passed the safe house, he slowed. He stopped in front of Room 304.
He didn’t know how Cecelia had reacted to “Jerome disappearing
But for now, he couldn’t go back.
The Kaczer Group equipment had to be destroyed first. After that, he’d decide what identity to use going forward.
