“Yes.”
Cecelia smiled. “I hope we get a chance to work together”
“Mm…”
Blake gave a quiet hum and walked away.
“Cece, who were you talking to?”
Ivy appeared in the doorway, peering into the empty hallway.
Faint footsteps echoed from the stairwell.
“Nobody important.”
Cecelia waved her off. “Go on, get ready for bed. We’ve got an early-
Whrrrrr-
A piercing alarm tore across the sky, cutting her sentence in half.
Ivy froze mid–step, staring outside.
Then came a thundering broadcast. “Emergency. A large number of zombies have breached the Eastern District perimeter. All ability users, report to the Eastern District entrance immediately and assist with support!!!
“All ability users, report to the Eastern District entrance immediatel
and assist with support!!!
“All ability users, report to the Eastern District entrance immediately and assist with support!!!”
The last line repeated three times.
Ivy’s face went white. “Cece, what’s happening? Do we all have to go?”
The broadcast had been blasted across the entire Western District.
The alarm had stopped.
Sound attracted zombies.
Which meant the Western District military would never issue a summons like this unless the situation was truly dire.
It was almost certainly real.
Cecelia shouted into the room, calling Draven’s name.
Draven was out in a flash. He didn’t need instructions Cecelia. Let me go check”
que look at her face, and he understood. En on it.
He vaulted over the railing and dropped straight down landing on a car root.

He’d already finished his upgrade–Level 3 wind ability now
The speed difference from before was staggering

The rush of that new power was so intoxicating he almost yelped. Before Cecelia could give him any further orders, he was already gone–a blur vanishing into the night.
Ivy blinked. “He really might be faster than Hendrick.”
Cecelia shrugged. “He used to be a delivery guy. He knows every shortcut and back alley in the city. Add that street knowledge to his apocalypse survival experience, and his ability to navigate terrain is leagues ahead of Hendrick’s.”
Hendrick’s wind ability had developed toward raw combat power–a product of his different life experiences.
Draven was more of a support player. If he wanted offensive capability, he’d need to work on developing his ability in that direction.
Moments later, Timothy and the others came downstairs.
“What’s going on?”
Hendrick looked at Cecelia. “That was a military broadcast. Are we going?”
“I sent Draven to scout. He should be back with intel soon.”
Tonight.
This was not going to be a quiet night.
Ten minutes later, Draven came tearing back, gasping for air.
He was drenched in sweat. “Cecelia, the Eastern District zombies are surging–they’ve broken through the barrier, and they’re heading straight for the Western District. The military already sounded the alarm–all ability users mobilize. But the real problem isn’t the regular horde; there are mutated zombies behind the first wave. That’s why the military’s in full panic mode!”
“A mutated zombie surge…”
It hit Cecelia like a thunderbolt. This matched what she’d known about Sanctum City from her past life.
Early on, the Western District had exploited the city’s geography to carve out a temporary safe zone for survivors.
But the Eastern District housed millions of zombies.
How many soldiers did the Western District military even have?
The fact that they’d managed to establish and maintain the Western District at all–keeping the majority of survivors alive was already a miracle.
Hiring ability users to periodically clear zombies from the Eastern District was their best play.
But against an ocean of millions of zombies, constantly feeding on each other and evolving–short of bombing the entire Eastern District to nibble–how could they possibly win!

The Western District’s fall was inevitable.
This was just the opening act.
It meant the Eastern District had already spawned a Level 6 zombie.
Zombie evolution followed the same steep curve as human ability advancement–each level exponentially harder than the last.
Cecelia’s earlier assessment of the Kaezer Group complex had been that a Level 5 mutated zombie had emerged.
Once a zombie reached Level 5, it crossed the threshold into what qualified as a true advanced zombie- gaining the ability to control other zombies and absorbing their crystals to fuel its own growth.
That was the critical difference between zombie and human advancement.
They could devour crystals from lower–level and same–level zombies, stack up experience little by little, and then break through!
Based on the research on advanced zombies from her previous life, post–Level–5 zombies developed genuine consciousness. They saw their own kind as a species–a race superior to the living.
