About seventy to eighty percent of those survivors made it because the military took control of the safe zone carly on.

That was just two weeks into the outbreak.

In simple terms, most normal people were only alive because the military protected them.

Seventy to eighty percent of them would perish if the military ever withdrew.

The reason was simple.

Survival of the fittest.

Ability users had a much higher survival rate than ordinary people.

Wesley used to be one of those ordinary people. If not for his rank before the outbreak-and some real capability of his own-he wouldn’t have become a general, put in charge of the troops guarding the safe

zone.

Morton had always felt it was a shame that his old friend never developed any special abilities.

He had even planned to bring Wesley back to Briar City someday and find a way to get him out of this frontline command.

Now? Maybe that wouldn’t be necessary.

“Hahaha!”

Wesley laughed out loud, clearly in a wonderful mood. “I’ve got Cecelia to thank. She helped me awaken just now.”

“What?”

Morton was even more confused.

He knew the name Cecelia.

Not long ago, he had paid attention to this girl.

The first time she entered the Eastern District, she came out earlier than him and without a single scratch.

She clearly had some skill.

But who would have thought she could help normal people awaken abilities?

“Cecelia?”

He looked at the girl stepping out from behind Wesley, still wearing a monkey mask, and smiled. “Seems like you’ve been hiding quite a few impressive tricks.”

Cecelia said calmly, “I only discovered it by accident. As for how it works, Wesley can explain it to you.

“Right!” Wesley jumped in. “Morton, I’ll tell you everything inside. Let’s not hold Cecelia up

Wesley smiled at Cecelia with clear fondness, like he was looking at his own daughter. “Be careful when you head to the Eastern District,” he said. “I remember what you asked for. I’ll have people start looking during this time.”

“Okay. Thank you, General Kinsman.”

“No need to thank me. You’re about the same age as my daughter!”

The more Wesley looked at Cecelia, the more he liked her. Even with that monkey mask on, she still seemed kind of cute.

Morton, on the other hand, was completely confused by his attitude. He stared at Wesley, full of suspicion.

Wesley quickly grabbed him and pulled him toward the tent. “I’ll explain inside!”

“Wait.”

Morton stopped him and turned to Cecelia and the others. “You’re heading to the Eastern District? On my way back, Cade told me about your plan. You want to use ability users-and even their bodies-to lure a Level 2 mutated zombie into a trap and wipe them all out?”

“Yes,” Cecelia said. “Right now, the military’s biggest problem is a shortage of crystals. This is the fastest way.”

Wesley waved it off. “I heard the plan too. Young people think fast. It’s solid. And with Blake here, the success rate is eighty to ninety percent.”

He even introduced them, “Mr. Saila, this is Morton, an old friend of mine.”

Morton had already heard about Blake.

Over a month ago, when most ability users hadn’t even reached Level 2, Blake was already a Level 4 psychic.

The quarantine barrier in the Eastern District had only been completed thanks to Blake. He used his ability to control regular zombies and drive them away.

That alone was enough for Wesley to treat him with genuine respect.

There was no way he’d act like a superior in front of someone like him.
