Apocalypse God Mode: Unlocked (Cecilia) novel Chapter 34

At 6:30 a.m., everyone gathered downstairs.

They ate a quick breakfast of selfheating meals, barely taking time to sit.

When they finished, Timothy spread a folded map across the table and said, It’ll take about three hours to drive back to Sylcreek. Once we get there, we’ll take a different road and continue toward Briar City. After today, we won’t return to this safe house.

Ryan raised his hand almost immediately. Timothy, aren’t we going back to Northbank to hunt mutated zombies?he asked. There are more of them there. Wouldn’t that make it easier for us to collect crystals?

Cecelia folded her arms and gave him a sharp look.

You really like dangerous ideas, she said bluntly. Northbank and Southridge are both downtown areas. That’s where the population used to be the densest. Mutated zombies can attract others nearby, so if we run into one group, more will come. We’re a small team. Even if everyone reaches level 3, there’s no guarantee we’d survive if we ran into a dozen level 3 zombies. That wouldn’t be hunting. That would be suicidal.

Hendrick glanced at her, then turned to Timothy. She’s right,he said calmly. There’s no need to take that risk. Even though I’ve already reached level 3 ability, I can barely handle a level 2 zombie on my own. Those things are tougher than they look.

Timothy nodded and looked at Ryan. We still don’t understand mutated zombies well. If we find level 1 zombies, we deal with those first. level 2 zombies require teamwork. No matter what, our safety comes first.”

Fine,Ryan muttered and stopped arguing.

He leaned back with a frustrated sigh and shot Cecelia an annoyed glance,

Ever since she brought up the crystal theory yesterday, Timothy and Hendrick had clearly begun to take her opinions seriously.

Ryan didn’t like that one bit.

An hour later, everyone finished packing their supplies into the truck.

Matthew and Ryan drove the cargo truck, staying at the back of the convoy.

Hendrick and Regina took another SUV and led the way.

Cecelia and Ivy rode in the SUV driven by Timothy, positioned safely between the two vehicles.

Chapter 34 Searching the Quiet Town

Finisher

Cecelia leaned slightly toward the window and watched the empty streets outside.

In the bright daylight, the zombies moved slowly, almost lazily.

But one thing was obviousthey were extremely sensitive to sound.

Whenever the vehicles rushed past, the zombies would snap their heads toward the noise and begin chasing after it.

They soon lost interest and ceased moving once more as the sounds of the engines faded into the distance.

The road back to Sylcreek was unexpectedly clear.

There were only a few scattered zombies and very few abandoned cars blocking the path.

Around 11 a.m., the vehicles finally reached the edge of town.

Sylcreek was small. Before the apocalypse, only a few hundred people had lived there.

If the navigation system hadn’t labeled it as a town, it would have easily passed for nothing more than a quiet, small, rural community.

The group parked their vehicles just outside the town, choosing a spot where only a handful of zombies wandered nearby.

After stepping out of the SUV, Cecelia narrowed her eyes and carefully observed the zombie drifting aimlessly through the streets.

This town isn’t very big,Timothy said as he scanned the group. We’ll split into two teams.”

He quickly gave out the assignments. Ryan, Regina, and Matthew will come with me. Ivy and Cecelia will go with Hendrick.

He tossed a walkietalkie toward Hendrick.

Hendrick caught it easily and lifted his hand in a casual OK sign.

Watch the time,” Timothy added. Whether you find mutated zombies or not, we all return to this spot in three hours.

Understood!everyone replied at the same time.

Cecelia quietly adjusted the black baseball cap on her head.

Ivy reached into her pocket and handed her a lollipop. Your favorite flavor,Ivy said softly. I

grabbed a bunch when we stopped at the grocery store yesterday.

Thanks, Ivy!Cecelia said with a bright smile.

She unwrapped the candy and happily sucked on it.

Ivy then held out another one toward Hendrick. Want one?

Hendrick glanced at Cecelia, the corner of his mouth lifting slightly. Candy is for kids.”

Cecelia blinked.

Was that directed at her?

Still, since he wasn’t staring at her with that cold, creepy look anymore, she decided to let it go.

Ivy laughed softly and gently rubbed Cecelia’s head. Cece doesn’t turn 20 until next month, she said warmly. She’s still a kid.

Cough! Cough!

Cecelia almost choked on the lollipop.

What’s wrong?Ivy asked immediately. Do you need some water?

Cecelia shook her head quickly.

I’m fine,” she said. I just realized that you will probably still see me as a kid even ten year from now.

After all, if she counted her previous life, she was already 30.

Ivy smiled at her gently. No,she said. I think you’re already growing up.”

Maybe very soon, Cecelia would become someone incredibly strong.

Ivy could see how hard she was trying.

Mm,Cecelia replied quietly.

She pulled down the brim of her cap to hide the faint blush spreading across her cheeks.

Ivy’s praise made her feel unexpectedly shy.
