Chapter 47 Quiet Schemes in the Dark
Hendrick had a simple reason for agreeing. Just before Cecelia spoke, he caught a brief glint in her sharp, sly, almost playful.
She was plotting something.
And the target was probably Zera.
Since that was the case, he decided to play along and watch the show.

“Hmm, hi, could I have some hot water for instant noodles?”
Amber walked over to Regina, who was packing supplies. Her voice was quiet and nervous.
Regina glanced at her.
Earlier, the girl had stayed behind Brian and Zera the whole time. She seemed shy and reserved.
Still, compared to the other two, Amber gave a much better impression.
Regina couldn’t bring herself to be cold to a girl like her. She picked up the kettle and handed it over. “There’s still a little left. Go ahead.”
Amber quickly bowed. “Thank you!”
“You’re welcome. Just bring the kettle back when you’re done.”
“I will!”
Amber nodded and hurried toward the car, clutching the kettle.
She almost ran the whole way.
By the time she reached the vehicle, she was breathing hard. Luckily, the kettle wasn’t very full, so none of the water spilled,
The moment the door opened, Zera grabbed the kettle and poured the hot water straight into her instant noodles.
Amber held up her own bowl and waited. But she watched helplessly as Zera used every drop. When the kettle was handed back, only a tiny bit remained, barely enough to dampen the noodles.
Meanwhile, Zera’s bowl was filled with water. The noodle block was completely soaked.
There had been enough water for two bowls, but Zera used it all.
Amber stood there, stunned.
She had gone through all that trouble to ask for the water.

Zera looked at her apologetically. “Sorry, Amber. I didn’t realize there was only enough for one bowl.”
Amber bit her lip. She glanced at Zera’s noodles. “Could you share a little with me?”
Zera hesitated, looking troubled. “But this is just enough for one bowl. And it’s hard to pour it out in the car. If you really want noodles, you can take mine.”
Then she turned to Brian and spoke softly, “Brian, could you go ask for some more hot water?”
Brian frowned and looked at Amber. “Look at me. I don’t have water, and I’m still eating. You won’t starve. Your noodles touched a little water already. That’s enough. Just eat. Don’t make things complicated.”
He wouldn’t scold his girlfriend, so Amber became the target instead.
Amber felt wronged. But after hearing that, she swallowed her complaints.
A few minutes later, the car filled with the rich smell of Zera’s cooked noodles.
And the loud slurping sounds as she ate them.
Amber had no choice but to chew on the dry noodle block. She nearly choked.
What worsened it was that Zera had so much broth she couldn’t finish it. In the end, Brian drank the rest.
Amber was the only one who didn’t get water, even though she asked for it.
“Amber, return the kettle,” Brian commanded.
“Oh, okay.”
Amber answered softly. She stepped out of the car and walked toward Timothy and the others.
Inside the car, Zera narrowed her eyes and spoke quietly to Brian, “See? I told you it’s easier if Amber goes to ask for things.”
Brian nodded.
He could see that now,
Maybe because Amber looked young, Timothy’s group didn’t see her as a threat.
Zera, however, was already making plans.
When she saw Matthew take the kettle from Amber, her target became clear,
Matthew would be the easiest,
He looked honest, simple, and soft–hearted,
Since Brian and the others were nearby, Timothy didn’t talk openly about abilities or crystals.
And since they were camping outside tonight, neither he nor Ivy rushed to upgrade.

Timothy looked at the group.
“Tonight we’ll guard in pairs. Get some rest. Tomorrow night we’ll find a safe house and upgrade our abilities.”
No one objected.
Ivy suddenly thought of something. Cecelia might enter her private space to train at night, and someone would need to wake her later. So, she spoke up. “I’ll pair with Cece.”
Cecelia glanced at her. She understood immediately. Ivy was covering for her. Warmth spread through her chest.
That was Ivy. Always look out for her.
“Alright,” Timothy said. Then he looked at the others.
“Ryan and I will take the first shift. Hendrick and Matthew take the second. Regina, rest well and recover your ability.”
“Sounds good!” Ryan said.
Still, he glanced hopefully at Hendrick. “Hendrick, are we catching rabbits tomorrow morning?”
Hendrick gave him a lazy look. “Depends on my mood.”
Ryan’s face fell instantly.
That meant no chance. Would he ever catch a rabbit and prove Cecelia wrong?
Hendrick ignored him. He yawned, climbed into the cargo truck, and went to sleep.
Matthew followed behind him.
Timothy then turned to Cecelia and Ivy, his tone serious. “Wild wolves might be out tonight. If you need to use the bathroom, wake us up. Don’t go alone.”
