“You want to awaken an ability, right? If you don’t kill zombies, how are you going to awaken one?”

“You can awaken an ability by killing zombies?” Amber asked, confused. “But when the apocalypse first started, didn’t everyone who could awaken an ability already do it?” She looked at Cecelia with doubt. “Brian and I met a few people with abilities before. But when they went out to gather supplies, they still got bitten by zombies. Their abilities didn’t seem very strong either.”

Amber frowned. She even wondered if Cecelia was just fooling her.

She did want to get stronger. But awakening abilities by killing zombies sounded a little unreliable.

“You don’t need to worry about other people,” Cecelia said as she kept walking. “Just try it my way first. If it doesn’t work, we’ll talk about it later.”

She wasn’t joking.

It was possible to awaken abilities later. The chance just wasn’t very high–only about 30 percent.

Still, not everyone was as unlucky as she was.

In her past life, she had tried more than ten times to awaken an ability. Every attempt failed. In the end, she had no choice but to give up.

Amber followed Cecelia for more than ten minutes.

There were clearly more zombies wandering around this area.

Amber’s face turned pale. She didn’t dare walk too far away from Cecelia.

Suddenly…

A zombie rushed out from the front and lunged straight at Cecelia.

Cecelia moved to the side and grabbed the zombie by the hair.

The zombie started howling and reached out toward Amber.

Amber froze in place. Even the hand holding the dagger was shaking.

Cecelia glanced at her. “Stab its head.”

Amber gritted her teeth and stepped forward with the dagger.

The zombie used to be a middle–aged man. His body was thin, and his cheeks were hollow. Blood covered his mouth. Pieces of chewed flesh were still stuck in his teeth. The smell was so horrible that Amber almost

cried.

“Hurry up,” Cecelia said. “Or I’ll let go and let it kiss you.”

Amber’s hand shook.

Then she clenched her teeth and stabbed the dagger into the zombie’s eye.

Stab!

The blade pierced through the soft eyeball. The zombie that had been struggling a moment ago suddenly stopped moving.

Amber let go of the dagger and staggered backward. Her legs felt weak.

Seeing this, Cecelia quickly pulled the dagger out of the zombie’s eye and tossed it back to her.

“That was only the first one. Tonight you must kill 20 zombies. And I won’t always hold them for you. Do you understand?”

“I understand.”

Amber picked up the dagger with trembling hands and followed Cecelia again.

From time to time, she looked back at the zombie she had just killed.

In fact, killing zombies wasn’t as hard as she had imagined.

As long as she used enough strength and stabbed through the eye, the blade could go straight into the brain.

At first it felt like cutting meat. But once it went deeper, it felt almost like cutting fruit.

Cecelia didn’t give her much time to adjust.

After explaining a few tricks, she made Amber handle the zombies herself starting from the third one.

Cecelia stood nearby and watched.

At one point, a female zombie knocked Amber to the ground, Amber kicked hard and struggled. The dagger even slipped from her hand and fell to the ground.

Even an ordinary zombie was much stronger than Amber.

But Amber didn’t give up. Even when the zombie almost bit her, she didn’t call Cecelia for help.

In the end, she grabbed the dagger again and slashed the zombie’s neck. Then she stabbed hard toward its head.

Stab!

When she pulled the dagger out, thick dark liquid flowed from the zombie’s neck and dripped onto Amber’s face.

Amber forced herself not to gag.

She pushed the dead zombie aside and sat up while breathing heavily. Her face was full of excitement. “Cecelia! I did it!”

Cecelia raised an eyebrow slightly and smiled. “You’re not bad. Actually, you’re stronger than I expected.”

She had thought Amber would cry for help.

But in the end, Amber killed the zombie herself.

That kind of determination was rare. Cecelia felt quite satisfied.
