Chapter 99 Trust and Doubt
The next second, the metal gate was pulled open.

At the same time, under the glow of the firelight, the mutated rats hiding in the corners let out sharp squeaking noises and suddenly lunged toward the two of them.
Whoosh! Whoosh!
Two wind blades shot through the air.
Two mutated rats were sliced clean in half and fell to the ground.
Behind them, Regina and Ivy worked together to pull the gate shut again.
Ivy looked at Cecelia with concern. “Cece, be careful!”
Cecelia nodded and glanced at Hendrick.
Hendrick took a breath and patted his back before saying to her, “Get on. I’ll carry you!”
Carry her?
Cecelia’s mouth twitched slightly. “No need. I can run myself.”
After saying that, she immediately ran toward the gas station.
Hendrick raised an eyebrow. Watching her back, he quickly sped up to follow.
Behind them, the mutated rats saw food running out of the building. In the darkness, their blood–red eyes gleamed with excitement.
They twitched their noses and bared their sharp teeth. With a quick turn, they dropped onto all fours and began hopping forward as they chased Cecelia and Hendrick.
On the rooftop, Timothy and Ryan were starting fires when they saw the scene below.
Ryan looked surprised. “Wasn’t Hendrick supposed to lure the mutated rats away? Why is that freeloader following him? Is she delivering herself as food?”
Timothy held a piece of cloth soaked in alcohol and gestured for Ryan to light it. After Ryan set it on fire, Timothy said, “Hendrick has his own reasons for doing that. Cecelia isn’t a reckless person either. Stop always assuming the worst about her.”
Ryan looked at him strangely. “Timothy, I don’t know when it started, but you and Hendrick have been taking Cecelia’s side more and more. Is she really that good? Don’t forget how she dragged us down for the past month. Who can guarantee she won’t do it again in the future?”
Timothy tossed the burning cloth out the window. At the same time, he released an ice blade that killed a mutated rat below. Then he glanced at Ryan again. “Ryan, you can see the changes in Cecelia. You just refuse to accept them. Think about it carefully. Since the moment she said she wanted to change, what kind of changes have happened in our team? And weren’t those changes caused by her? Even our team’s

He paused before continuing. “Cecelia knows a lot about the apocalypse. More than you or I could imagine. Right now her presence brings more benefits than problems to our team. You should start thinking rationally instead of always acting on impulse.”
Ryan clenched his teeth, clearly unwilling to accept it.
But he also had to admit that Timothy was right.
He simply didn’t believe Cecelia could suddenly become a better person.
From the beginning, the things Cecelia had done had almost gotten him killed. She hadn’t made any meaningful contributions to the team either.
He believed everyone should have a sense of responsibility. They should work hard to become stronger and fight to survive in this harsh apocalypse. Not act like Cecelia had before, lying around doing nothing.
The Cecelia from before had allowed herself to become useless.
She had comfortably enjoyed the results of everyone else’s hard work.
Even if those efforts came from her own sister, who willingly supported her.
He still hated seeing it.
Of course, no matter how much he disliked her, he would never do something like Cecelia had done before and push someone out to die.
“In any case, think about it carefully. Everything Cecelia has done lately has been for the team. She’s part of our group now. I hope you can let go of the conflict between the two of you,” Timothy continued, trying to persuade him.
He sighed helplessly. “Even criminals in prison get a chance to reform. Why can’t Cecelia?”
Human nature was selfish. He was no exception.
Ivy was extremely important to their team. That was why, at the beginning, he had tolerated Cecelia. It wasn’t until she did things that endangered the lives of team members and Ivy wanted to leave the team with her that he began to silently allow Hendrick to consider killing Cecelia.
But after that period of time, Cecelia had proven through her actions that she had changed.
Those changes felt a little strange to him.
Cecelia knew about zombie levels and crystals. She even knew about the mutated rats downstairs. All of that made people suspicious.
After all, she had spent the entire past month with them.
Where had she learned all that information?
There was also the matter of distributing crystals earlier. Cecelia had specifically said that the crystals she

earned herself belonged to her.
On the surface, it looked like she did that for Ivy. But…
He had a guess. Could it be that Cecelia possessed some kind of special ability?
For example… analysis.

Something like when she saw a zombie or a mutated rat, information about it would automatically appear in her mind.
It sounded strange, but it wasn’t impossible.
After all, the apocalypse itself had already happened.
As for why Cecelia kept hiding her ability, it clearly meant she didn’t trust them very much either.
Compared to her simple and kind older sister Ivy, Cecelia had far more tricks up her sleeve.
But Timothy didn’t think that was a problem.
Because during the past month, they had interacted with Cecelia far less than they had with Ivy.
They didn’t trust Cecelia. Naturally, Cecelia didn’t trust them either.
But as long as they stayed in the same team, that situation could change.
Cecelia’s attitude toward Ryan made that obvious.
Most of the time, she simply refused to go easy on him with her words.
