Chapter 8
I paused for a moment.
Harrison gave a faint, bitter smile, “Though my memory is fuzzy, I’ve always remembered that scene.”
“You were shocked, trying to push me away, but I held onto you, not letting go.”
He lowered his head, “Then Dad came, slapped you, and accused you of seducing me. I wanted to explain,
but I felt dizzy and couldn’t speak.”
I spoke directly, “It was Lily. She put something in your drink.”
Harrison suddenly looked up, “How do you know that?”
I briefly explained the findings of Maverick’s investigation.
Harrison remained silent for a long time before he slowly spoke, “I’m so sorry you carried this all by
yourself.”
He told me that Lily had always been very dependent on him, and her feelings for him had crossed the line of
cousin affection.
Harrison had always viewed her as a little sister and had explicitly rejected her advances.
Harrison gave a bitter smile, “But she wouldn’t give up. She said she’d find a way to be with me.”
His voice was filled with guilt, “I’m sorry, Willow. If I had spoken up back then, things wouldn’t have turned out
like this.”
I replied calmly, “It doesn’t matter anymore. What’s done is done. We all paid the price.”
Harrison spoke urgently, “But I still want to make it right.”
I looked at the guilt in his eyes, suddenly finding it a bit laughable.
Seven years ago, when I needed him the most, he chose silence.
Now, I had moved past the shadows and built a new life, and yet he wanted to make up for it.
It was too late.
I looked at him seriously, “I don’t need you to make it up to me, Harrison. I let go of what happened seven
years ago a long time ago.”
“If you really want to do something for me, treat Chloe well. She may have her sharp edges, but she really loves you. Don’t put her through what I went through.”
Harrison froze.
I stood up, “I’m leaving now. Harrison, I wish you happiness.”

Harrison called out to me, “Willow! Can we… still be friends?”
I turned to look at him and smiled faintly, “That won’t be necessary. Some chapters are better left closed.”
With that, I turned and left the café without looking back.
Stepping out of the café, Maverick’s car was already waiting for me at the door.
