Approved for Her Rejected for Me novel Chapter 39

Chapter 6

Victor lifted me into his arms and eased me into the back seat. The convoy turned and drove through the

wind and snow toward the airport.

Back at the Silver Moon packhouse, the silence had turned into something almost unbearable. Wayne sat on the leather sofa with an untouched glass of red wine in his hand, long since gone warm.

He yanked at his tie and fixed his gaze on the antique clock across the room. The hour hand had crept past

eleven.

Three full hours had passed since he threw me out. Kaven came over with a plate of chocolate-covered strawberries and pressed herself against his side.

“Wayne, you know how stubborn Elise is. It’s freezing out there. She’s probably curled up in some corner, waiting for you to go find her.”

Wayne knocked her hand away. The plate hit the floor and scattered the ruined strawberries across the

room.

He got up and went to stand by the floor-to-ceiling windows, staring out at the white sweep of snow. In seven years, I had never stayed away from him for more than a day.

Every time we fought, no matter how long he shut me out, I’d show up at his study the next morning with

breakfast as if nothing had happened. He was certain I wouldn’t dare leave for real, that the cold would break

me before his pride did, and that I’d come crawling back to the gate, begging to be let in.

But three full hours had passed, and nothing stirred outside the gate. Something restless and unfamiliar

twisted through Wayne’s chest, something he couldn’t name.

He turned and snapped at Ethan, who had been standing silent in the corner. “Get out there and check the

gate. Now.”

Ethan took several warriors and went out into the storm. Ten minutes later, he came back dusted with snow,

his face tight with something he clearly didn’t want to say.

“Alpha, there’s no one out there. We searched the whole perimeter. Her tracks are already buried, and her

scent is completely gone. It’s like she was never there.”

The wineglass cracked in Wayne’s grip. He gritted his teeth, and when he spoke, his voice was a low, lethal

growl. “Pull the perimeter security footage. I want to know where she went.” He paused, then, “Freeze every

account in her name and lock down every Silver Moon safe house. I want to see how long she lasts out there

with nothing.”

Ethan stepped away to make the calls. A few minutes later, he came back holding up the tablet, and when he

spoke, there was something cautious in his voice.

“Alpha, the Luna was picked up at the pack borders by a convoy bearing Northern Pack insignia, the Royal

Guard detail. It’s the kind of convoy Silver Moon doesn’t have access to, not even close.”

Three hours later, the Northern Pack’s private jet touched down back home. Victor held my hand as he

walked me down the steps of the plane.

My parents were already on the tarmac, standing in the cold as if they’d been there for hours. The moment

she saw me, my mother closed the distance between us and pulled me into her arms, all composure gone.

“Elise, baby. We looked everywhere. We never stopped looking.” She wept without trying to hold it back, and

through the pack bond, I could hear her wolf, older now and grayer, lift her muzzle and howl.

My father, who had led the Northern Pack for years, stood there with his eyes rimmed red, his trembling hands moving through my hair as if he still couldn’t quite believe I was real.

Their familiar scent hit me all at once, and I stopped trying to hold back my tears.

Seven years ago, a rogue attack during a training run had stolen my memories. I had wandered, lost and alone, into Silver Mist Forest on the Silver Moon border, until Wayne found me and brought me back to Silver Moon territory.

With nothing else to hold on to, I had made Wayne my whole world and the Silver Moon Pack my only home.

I hadn’t known until today how hard they had searched.
