Chapter 5
I stared at his face, rage twisting it into something ugly, and for once, I didn’t apologize. I yanked my arm free
and reached for my bag.
“Fine. I’ll move to the Omega quarters right now.” I swung the bag onto my shoulder and walked past him
toward the door.
Something in Wayne snapped. A low, dangerous snarl tore out of his throat.
A massive shadow cut across my path as his wolf pushed to the surface, moving faster than I could think.
He slammed both hands into me and hurled me straight into the door.
The impact sent me and the door panel crashing out of the packhouse and into the snow with a crack like a
gunshot. Pain exploded through my chest, and the metallic taste of blood flooded the back of my throat.
His Alpha strength was simply too much. Lydia and I still hadn’t recovered enough from the blood loss to put up any real fight.
Wayne didn’t move. His face was lost in shadow, and his voice held no warmth at all. “Elise, since you love
playing the victim so much, don’t bother coming back.
“Let’s see how long a rejected rogue lasts out there in the snow without the protection of my pack.” His gaze never left me as he spoke, as if he were waiting for something in me to break.
I spat blood onto the snow and pushed myself off the ground, my arms shaking with the effort. I left the bag
where it had fallen and kept walking.
“Fine.” The word came out as a snarl. His Alpha aura crashed through the packhouse like a wave of frozen
air.
Then came the severing of the bond.
“I, Alpha Wayne, reject you, Elise Anderson, as my mate and my Luna.”
Without turning around, I said, “I accept your rejection.” Pain ripped through my chest, sharp and immediate.
Lydia’s howl tore through my mind, raw and broken. Time stretched into nothing.
I forced my spine straight and kept moving. I felt Wayne’s gaze fall away from my back.
Through the wind and snow, twelve black Rolls-Royce Phantoms bearing the Northern Pack’s insignia rolled
to a stop in front of me. The door of the center car flew open.
Victor, the Alpha King of the Northern Pack, stepped out in a tailored black overcoat and crossed the snow
toward me. One look at my thin clothes and the purple tinge in my cheeks, and something in his eyes went hard with fury.
He stripped off his overcoat, still warm from his body, and wrapped it around me. The Alpha King’s scent, winter pine and rich earth, wrapped around me with it.
