Chapter 6

Three months passed quickly.

After the ceasefire agreement was signed, we gradually withdrew from the conflict zone.

As soon as I returned, Lily insisted on taking me out to eat. The moment she saw me, her eyes filled with tears. “Oh my god. It’s only been a few months. How did you get so dark? You weren’t exactly well-fed before, but you were never this skinny.”

She circled me with obvious distress, determined to make me eat properly again.

What I didn’t expect was that Dominic was already waiting at the restaurant.

Lily grinned as she introduced him. “This is Dominic, my actual brother. He just got back too, so I figured we’d all eat together.”

The way she kept wiggling her eyebrows made her intentions painfully obvious. I smiled helplessly and was about to speak when Dominic beat me to it.

“We already know each other,” he said calmly. “Let’s just order.”

Lily clapped her hands in delight. “That’s even better. If you already know each other, you’ll have so much to talk about.”

Dominic shot me an apologetic look. “Sorry about her. She’s always like this.”

As he spoke, he placed a bowl in front of me that he had already rinsed with hot water, just like before.

Back then, clean water was scarce. Food and water were often contaminated, and people fought viciously just to be the first to get a bucket of clean water.

I never won those fights. Once, I was shoved to the ground and twisted my wrist.

If Dominic hadn’t stepped in, it could have turned into something far worse.

From that day on, there was always an extra bucket of clean water outside my tent every morning.

I was pulled out of the memory by the look Lily gave me. It was far too knowing. My heart skipped, and I looked away instinctively.

“Riley, be honest. You two…”

“Riley. I finally found you.”

Two voices overlapped.

One was sharp with curiosity and barely contained excitement.

The other carried raw relief, the kind that only came from fear finally giving way.

Chapter 6

I turned toward it.

Not far away, Leo stood there, staring at me as if he couldn’t believe his luck.

Before I could react, he walked straight over. His eyes never left my face. “Thank the Moon Goddess. You’re safe. You’re really back. Do you have any idea how hard it’s been for me? I wake up from nightmares every day. I…”

“Stop,” Lily said sharply as she stood. Her expression twisted with shock and disgust. “Alpha Leo, don’t you think this is wildly inappropriate? Your Luna is standing right behind you. Do you really think it’s acceptable to say this to Riley?”

Behind him, Liora stood frozen, her face pale and her eyes red with unshed tears.

The Leo who normally couldn’t stand to see Liora cry seemed completely oblivious. “Riley is my mate. She’s my Luna. How is it inappropriate for me to talk to her?”

“What?” Lily stared at him in disbelief.

Dominic remained calm. I had already told him that I had sealed the mate bond.
