Sabrina hadn’t visited in some time, and Vanessa was genuinely feeling her absence. In her young mind, she’d convinced herself that if she could help solve Vincent’s and Sabrina’s problems, they might finally make more time for her.
She never anticipated Scarlett would refuse to help.
Vanessa couldn’t shake the growing conviction that Scarlett had become a completely different person.
She sat curled on the sofa, looking small and forlorn, her spirits sinking with each passing
moment.
From the kitchen, Scarlett watched Vanessa’s melancholy expression with a bitter sense of irony.
She had declined to help, and Vanessa hadn’t even pretended to accept it-she’d simply withdrawn.
Scarlett released a quiet, humorless breath. After preparing the meal, she moved to wash her hands.
If Vanessa didn’t truly want her there, what was the point in staying?
When Scarlett emerged from the kitchen, she instructed Lily, “The fish are ready to be steamed. Please make sure Vanessa eats when they’re done. I need to leave-I have things to attend to.”
Lily frowned, watching Scarlett prepare to depart. “Mrs. Stewart, won’t you be staying the night?”
Scarlett was already removing her apron as she responded, “No.”
Vanessa heard Scarlett’s decision but made no attempt to persuade her to stay.
Scarlett collected her belongings and moved toward the entrance,
Just as she reached the doorway, she nearly collided with Vincent and Sabrina entering together.
Scarlett barely acknowledged them, attempting to step around, but Vincent suddenly seized her arm. “I need to speak with you.”
Scarlett turned to face Vincent, her voice frosty. “If this is about Nolan, save your breath. I’m not Nolan-I can’t make his decisions, and I have no right to.”

With that, she pried his fingers from her arm.
But then Sabrina positioned herself in front of her. “Ms. Theron, Vincent values your opinion highly. He’ll listen to you. Daniel is in the hospital, so distressed it’s affecting his health. For Vincent’s sake, couldn’t you help?”
Unlike Vincent’s direct approach, Sabrina adopted a humble, pleading manner.
Scarlett refused to even look at Sabrina. She said simply, “Move.”
But Sabrina held her ground. “Ms. Theron, I’m begging you. Don’t you care about Daniel at all?”
Scarlett’s eyes fixed on Sabrina, her voice sharpening. “I said move.”
Sabrina spread her arms, blocking the path. “I’m not moving.”
Scarlett didn’t hesitate-she pushed Sabrina’s shoulder firmly, forcing her aside.
The way was clear now, but as Sabrina stumbled backward, she must have lost her footing or caught her shoe on something.
She fell to the ground, her hand scraping against sharp gravel, blood immediately blooming on her palm.
Scarlett froze momentarily, taken by surprise.
But Vincent reacted instantly. He crouched down, took Sabrina’s hand, and upon seeing the blood, urgently began dabbing at it with his white shirt sleeve.
Scarlett had been married to Vincent for five years-she knew his fastidious nature when it came to cleanliness.
Yet now, he seemed completely unconcerned about the blood staining his expensive clothing.
When true love exists, all rules are forgotten.
Scarlett watched the scene unfold, her eyes suddenly burning with unshed tears.
Vincent’s devotion was so palpable, so undeniable.
This was just a minor incident, but didn’t genuine love reveal itself in these small moments?
Vincent carefully cleaned the blood and dirt from Sabrina’s hand with his sleeve, then gently blew on the wound.
Sabrina winced, tears gathering in her eyes, her fragile appearance enough to soften any heart.

He looked at her, his voice tender with concern. “Does it still hurt?”
Sabrina pressed her lips together and shook her head. “Vincent, I’m alright. The pain is manageable.”
Vincent helped her to her feet. “Let’s go inside and properly clean that wound.”
Sabrina’s tears finally overflowed. “Vincent, I’m useless. I couldn’t help Daniel.”

Vincent gently wiped the tears from her cheeks. “It’s not your fault. You did everything you could.”
Sabrina continued blaming herself. “I’m a doctor. I graduated from the same prestigious school as you. But I can’t perform this surgery. If I could, we wouldn’t need to ask anyone. Vincent, I’m just not competent enough.”
Vincent reached out and softly stroked her hair, his voice comforting. “You’re exceptional. Stop blaming yourself. If Daniel knew how you’re feeling, he’d be heartbroken.”
Sabrina lowered her eyes, her cheeks flushing, guilt evident across her features. “Alright.”
