Vincent was assisting Sabrina toward the main house. Scarlett stood to the side, neither departing nor speaking-simply observing them move together.

But before they reached the entrance, Vincent turned and fixed his gaze directly on Scarlett. His eyes blazed with restrained anger.

Yes, he was furious.

Scarlett remained completely unintimidated. She met his stare unflinchingly, her expression inscrutable.

They regarded each other in silence, neither speaking, yet in that wordless exchange Scarlett understood Vincent’s message perfectly.

He was telling her she had crossed a line.

But was it truly her fault?

Sabrina had blocked her path and refused to move-contact had been inevitable. Why was Vincent blaming her instead of Sabrina?

Scarlett offered a bitter, weary smile and finally broke their gaze.

Just as she turned to leave, Vincent suddenly asked Sabrina, “Can you walk unassisted?”

Sabrina appeared confused, but before she could respond, Vincent bent and swept her into his

arms.

His hand brushed against Sabrina’s injured arm, and she leaned into his chest, murmuring softly, “Vincent, that stings.”

“I’ll be more careful.”

Vincent lowered his head as he spoke. From Scarlett’s perspective, it appeared his lips grazed Sabrina’s forehead.

“Hah…” Scarlett couldn’t suppress a cold, quiet laugh before turning and walking away.

As Vincent carried Sabrina inside, Vanessa came rushing over. “Dad, what’s wrong with

Sabrina?”

Scarlett didn’t hear Vincent’s response-she was already too distant.

After leaving Ravenshade Villa, she noticed a white Porsche parked out front. The door opened,

and a woman in a long white dress emerged.

Scarlett looked up and recognized Lucy.

In the passenger seat, Luke sat momentarily before reluctantly exiting as well.

Since Scarlett and Vincent had married, Lucy and Luke rarely visited Ravenshade Villa. When they did come, it was typically only to see Vanessa.

Still, regardless of how infrequent their visits, they usually appeared several times a year.

In the past, whenever they visited, Scarlett would welcome them with a warm smile and prepare various dishes-stews, stir-fries, an entire spread.

If Lucy or Luke expressed preference for a particular dish, she would prepare it regardless of complexity or time required.

But now, seeing them here at night, her face showed no hint of a smile, none of the warmth she’d once readily offered.

Knowing they weren’t here for her, Scarlett attempted to pass by without engagement, but Lucy suddenly caught her arm. “Scarlett, I need to speak with you.”

Scarlett paused, her eyes red-rimmed as she regarded Lucy. “So you’re here to ask me for something too?”

Not every member of the Stewart family was unkind—at least Xavier and Lucy had always treated her decently.

Xavier had consistently been gentle with Scarlett, never causing her difficulties. Lucy wasn’t particularly close, but she’d never intentionally made things hard for her.

Seeing the hurt in Scarlett’s eyes, Lucy felt a twinge of guilt. After hesitating briefly, she sighed. “Scarlett, Daniel’s mother is still young, with so much life ahead. I consulted Dr. Huntley as well, but he stated he’d only agree to the surgery if you requested it. So…”

Scarlett didn’t let her finish. She withdrew her arm from Lucy’s grasp. “Speaking with me won’t help. Go talk to Daniel.”

With that, she turned and walked away without looking back. Luke didn’t attempt to stop her, but he muttered sharply to Lucy, “I told you-even if you ask, she won’t help. She’s just a parasite. Why bother pleading with her?”

Scarlett heard Luke’s insult clearly, but she didn’t react. She simply entered her car and drove

away.

Watching her departure, Lucy glared at Luke. “I told you to mind your language. She’s Vincent’s

Luke rolled his eyes. “You continue defending her, but does she even value your concern?”

Lucy sighed deeply. “But Daniel isn’t entirely blameless in this situation either. Nolan is a principled professional. He wouldn’t commit basic errors.”

Luke retorted, “You’re not Nolan. How can you possibly know what truly occurred?”

Lucy had no response and fell silent.

The following day, after work, Scarlett brought food to visit Nolan.

But when she opened the hospital room door, she found Xavier already present.

“Grandpa?”

She was surprised, but still greeted him courteously.

She knew precisely why Xavier had come, but she felt neither anger nor emotional distress— just an empty resignation.
