Chapter 127 Nolan’s Sacrifice

Scarlett’s eyes immediately welled with tears. “So all the harm you suffered-it just gets brushed aside?”
Nolan looked down with a faint, resigned smile. “Some things aren’t worth holding onto.”
A wave of guilt washed over Scarlett. “I’m so sorry,
Nolan.”
“Scarlett, I’m a doctor,” he replied gently. “I was just doing my job. Don’t blame yourself, and don’t feel ashamed for me. Honestly, I’m fine.”
That’s what he said aloud, but only Nolan knew the truth he carried inside.
He came from a different world than Vincent and Daniel-an ordinary background where he was the first to achieve such professional success.
He had poured everything into building his career, yet it could be so easily threatened by those with power and influence.
How could he truly be fine?
Scarlett wanted to say more-to suggest he use this situation to secure his future. But Nolan spoke first, “How about oatmeal tomorrow? If I have any more fish soup, I might start growing gills.”
He even made a playful swimming gesture with his hands.
Despite herself, Scarlett let out a soft laugh.
Seeing her smile, Nolan said, “That’s better. No matter what happens, you have to keep finding reasons to laugh. If you can still laugh, you can survive anything.”
Scarlett nodded. She stayed a while longer before finally taking her leave.
But the moment she stepped into the corridor, she found Vincent leaning against the wall.
Scarlett started, her hand flying to her chest as her heart raced.
She moved to walk past when Vincent said calmly, “I heard your conversation.”
Scarlett paused. “Good. I wanted to speak with you anyway.”
“Very well,” Vincent responded.
A minute later, they stood together in the stairwell.

Scarlett didn’t bother with pleasantrics. “Nolan has agreed to do the surgery. He’s a doctor-he would never abandon a patient. But you owe him for his reputation. That needs to be addressed.”
Vincent’s response was measured. “Once the situation is resolved, I’ll ensure appropriate restitution.”
“Appropriate?” Scarlett’s voice sharpened. “I want Daniel to apologize to Nolan personally.”
Vincent watched her anger with detached calm. “Like you, I can’t make decisions for others.”
Frustration surged through her. “So you allowed everyone to pressure and harass him? You, Lucy, even Grandpa-all of you ganged up on him!”
Vincent remained unmoved. “Daniel is a proud man. I doubt he’ll easily concede.”
Scarlett found this ridiculous. “Who cares about his pride?”
“I don’t understand your meaning.”
“Would Daniel really value his pride over his mother’s life if Nolan refused the surgery?” Her voice rose with each word.
Vincent offered no response, his silence speaking volumes.
His indifference only fueled her anger.
Realizing the futility of the conversation, she took a calming breath. “Forget it.”
She reached for the door to leave.
But as her hand touched the handle, Vincent said, “I’ll speak with Daniel.”
Scarlett didn’t acknowledge him. She simply pushed the door open and walked away.
Two days later, Daniel posted a public apology across social media platforms. That same afternoon, Nolan performed the complex brain surgery on Daniel’s mother at Rivergate Central Hospital.
The procedure spanned seven hours and concluded with remarkable success.
The following day, Nolan resumed his duties at the hospital.
With the surgery complete, the pressure on Scarlett finally eased. Her life gradually returned to its normal rhythm.

Three days later, Scarlett left work early and decided to visit Theron Manor to cook for her family.
She had spent about thirty minutes preparing ingredients when Clara returned home.
“Auntie! I brought your package inside!” Clara called from the living room.
Scarlett emerged from the kitchen to find an elegantly wrapped box on the dining table.
The sophisticated packaging unmistakably signaled Damian’s involvement.
Amid all the recent turmoil with Nolan, Scarlett had nearly forgotten about Damian’s existence.
She kept reminding herself that men like Damian were capricious-their interests were temporary, their grand gestures ultimately meaningless.
Yet nearly ten days had passed, and he continued sending extravagant gifts to her home.
Scarlett couldn’t help but wonder when a millionaire decided to pursue someone, did the price tag really mean so little?
